Hey Notre Dame. I know that loss sucks, but here’s a silver lining.
Playing ranked opponents is tough.
Thank GOD you don’t have to do it for another 3 weeks. AND you get a bye week next week.
Can you IMAGINE having to do it 2 weeks in a row?! Let alone 3?! Or playing a conference championship.
Brutal. Anyways, have a safe trip home!

There are a flood of Skip Bertman memories for me and everybody else — we share some of them, and everybody has their own stash.
Four of my favorites:
1) The look on his face during the Les Miles press conference at the Georgia Dome in 2007. He was enjoying it as much as anybody else.
2) The impromptu media gaggle the day Paul Mainieri was introduced as the new baseball coach when Skip looked around at the horde and said in the way only he could “This Mainieri guy is the real deal. Great coach. Not as good as me … but a great coach.”
3) Just over three years later as LSU folks celebrated on the field at Rosenblatt Stadium, Skip was beaming when Paul sought him out and they hugged. A bit later when I saw Skip on the field, he was still beaming and he told me “I told you this guy was great. We’re back!”
4) Not long after I stepped away from covering LSU to spend more time with my girls, I went to Skip’s house for some advice about launching my own website — the infant stages of what became HubCityPreps.com in 2018. I got there early and Skip was in the bathroom, so Ms. Sandy put me to work bringing in groceries from her car. When Skip came out and saw what she had me doing, he chuckled and said that’s why he had taken so long in the bathroom. Then before we ever broached the subject for me coming to see him, he insisted on seeing pictures of Jenny and my daughters. He ooohed and aahed at all three and told me “That’s your why. No matter what you do or who you work for, don’t forget that.”
I didn’t Skip. Never will. And won’t ever forget that you treated me like we’d been friends forever from the day I met you in 2004 and became a major influence on me.
And for those who don’t know, there is one person on earth who I never corrected when they dubbed me Rosie and that was Skip.
Like thousands of others, I will miss him, but I am glad he gets to go reunite with Sandy and daughter Lisa Jo, along with the other legends of college baseball waiting for him in Heaven.

He'll never get the love he deserves in his hometown bc he isn't 5.
He'll never get the love he deserves nationally bc he doesn't play in NY, LA, CHI, or BOS.
He's a future hall of famer and I'm tired of folks not giving him the respect and love he deserves.
