BREAKING: MIT just completed the first brain scan study of ChatGPT users & the results are terrifying. Turns out, AI isn't making us more productive. It's making us cognitively bankrupt. Here's what 4 months of data revealed: (hint: we've been measuring productivity all wrong)

The strategy pattern is one of my favorites from the original Design Patterns book. In this week's video, we'll see why the strategy pattern is helpful, we'll apply the pattern in #Kotlin, and then we'll see how we can use some of Kotlin's language features to put a more modern spin on it. youtube.com/watch?v=-Ak44LFw…

The next cohort starts in around 1 month. Book your seat now before it goes sold out, 30 people in already 🏃🏃🏃🔥 RT this to help me reach more people, and get a chance to win a FREE seat or 375€ 💸, whatever you prefer 👇
Announcing new date for the next cohort of the Jetpack Compose and internals course: Sept 15 🗓️ I’m delaying this one a bit more than usual in order to revisit part of the content and expand it with a few additional topics 🔥 I want to make the course even more useful to multiple targets. One of the new topics I want to add is: Design Systems ✨ All the attendees will get free access to the digital copy of the Jetpack Compose internals book for life, and what it is more exciting: this time they will also get early access to buy the brand new printed version of the book for a reduced price once published. (No ETA for that yet, but yes: it’s happening! 🤯) On top of that, attendees also get full access to the Effective Android Discord community, where more than 300 devs are already discussing about Compose 📈 Early bird price is already open for the first 30 people, find all the details in replies 👇

Many people exploit CompositionLocals, Id recommend not doing this as possible. CompositionLocals are a form of implicit dependency passing. They are used in Compose because otherwise all Composable functions would be bloated with literally tons of extra parameters for things like context, density, theming and what not. They are indeed handy for things that can be potentially needed from several nodes at different depths on the UI tree, but the official recommendation is to not create your custom ones unless it’s something really, really specific. Otherwise it’s always better to hoist all state and user interactions via callbacks, so dependencies can be wired at the root level. Implicit dependencies are counterproductive for many reasons. They hide what are the requirements from a Composable function, and it’s too easy to break its behavior since it’s affected by external state that can change from many levels. It’s also hard to know if all dependencies required by a Composable are provided. And it’s harder to reason about a Composable on isolation. These are only a few reasons, there are more.
