It’s been a while, but one day, when I have a little more free time, I’ll continue what I started and make up for what I’ve missed. Until then, I couldn't resist mentioning this title. If I had to pick just one album as the best of 2026, this would definitely be it.

Austere dropping their latest gem is a good occasion to mention this one as well. Even though I didn't know it, just a few songs in, it wasn't hard to recognize the style. Artist: Autumn's Dawn Album: We Lost Our Hope Along the Way Year: 2025 open.spotify.com/album/1qeCW…

As they describe their music: "Heavy, melodic riffs, thunderous drums, rhythmic bass, and intense vocals." Can't say it better. Hardcore, punk, rock - you'll find it all here. Artist: DEVolution Album: Deceiver, Believer Year: 2024 Spotify: open.spotify.com/album/0QZYg…

A suggestion from one of my faithful metalhead friends. An album I missed during 2024, and indeed it was a huge miss. A surprisingly heavy mix of slow black/death metal that you'll remember. Artist: Pyra Album: Those Who Dwell in the Fire Year: 2024

While there's no denying the controversies surrounding frontman Blake Judd, Nachtmystium managed to create a wonderful black metal album by today's standards, and it's worth the time. Artist: Nachtmystium Album: Blight Privilege Year: 2024

A one-man band from Scandinavia. Well-balanced black metal, a signature sound of Finland - raw, but with just the right amount of melody. Artist: Valontuoja Album: Luonnon armoilla Year: 2024

Modern and beautiful doom/death from Belgium. Probably a well-known name for fans of the subgenre, but new to me. I have a lot to catch up on here. Artist: Marche Funèbre Album: After the Storm Year: 2024
