I was 14 and a high school freshman in Central Texas and over 1,700 miles away when it happened.

If you have trouble celebrating July 4th, I can sympathize. For years, we did so within internment camp barbed wire fencing, guns pointed in at us. We honored the promise of America even as it was broken to us every day.
But still, we kept faith. And a brighter day finally came.

My uncle, Daniel, died of AIDS in 1984, three years before I was born. A few years ago, I was blessed to meet Nick, a close friend of his who still lives in SF. He had a wall of 8x10 photos of deceased friends in his home and he gave me the ones he had of Dan in a neat folder.

Pro-trans rights bill Hawaii SB2835 unanimously voted in favor of out of committee! This bill would mandate health insurance cover facial surgery, hair removal, vocal training, etc for trans people.
A reminder that there are positive bills moving through the country right now.

It’s a beautiful day at the @houstonzoo. If you look closely you can see a bald eagle in the background.
