Warm greetings, I've contributed to Antennae's issue #63, with my essay 'Qu(e)ercus robur: Orlando and the Oak Tree'. In it I explore the presence of an #oak in Virginia Woolf's novel #Orlando through a #queer #ecology lens: antennae.org.uk/.

Echoing @jsdjukes's sentiments here. Lovely to reach such a milestone. For more on oak trees and queer approaches, specifically in relation to Woolf's Orlando (for my new followers), my paper titled 'Que(e)rcus robur' is here: researchgate.net/publication… 🌳

My second article for the year (!!) has been published by @whitehorsepress. Ruminations on how concepts of #plantintelligence can be integrated into photographic practice. Read for a convergence of #oak trees, artistic #sustainability & alternative #photographic practice.
We've published a new fast track article in 'Plant Perspectives', being Epha J. Roe on 'Photographic Phytography: Towards a Photographic Re-Centring of the Oak Tree within Theory, Material and Practice'; #OpenAccess here: doi.org/10.3197/whppp.638454… #plants #oaktree #photography

As someone with Israeli friends, both Jewish and Arab, this sums up many if not all of my thoughts and feelings over the last few weeks. I'm glad to hear this articulated among the vocal, written & literal rubble that often makes up "the fog of war".
The fog of war lies thick all around. It’s so hard to sort out pebbles of fact from mountains of propaganda. But here’s one thing I know: I’m just appalled. Appalled by what Hamas unleashed: the slaughter of civilians, homes drenched in terror and raw vengeance. 1/8

Some more interesting, related, pivotal remarks on the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree. When it's considered that even national and notable trees can be destroyed under the cover of darkness, what does that say about us and our precarious relationship with the natural world?
I completely understand the anger and emotions around the Sycamore Gap. It’s why I want to see an end to RIS2. Losing the Queen Camel Oak for completely pointless A303 expansion should make you just as angry. It’s all vandalism. @StopRIS2 somersetlive.co.uk/news/some…

James Wong on the interesting tensions between the affects of destructive felling that often create the conditions for iconic trees to be, iconic, while at the same time recognising the effects that the felling of a famous tree can have on a community and nation.

The (rightly) public outcry around the mysterious felling of the Sycamore Gap tree is a testament the enduring value humans bestow on trees, especially those considered in some way individual, unique and materially linked to county and country. A sad, sad day.

English & Drama were the only subjects I liked at school. I also did an Art History masters. Laughable that rich politicians attack art education while propping up the fine art market by buying and selling (I imagine his billionaire father-in-law has an extensive art collection).

Did you know, ancient oak trees can support the lives of over 2,300 other species? Cornerstones of our woodland communities, they provide both a home and a food source for birds, bats, insects and much more. #SaveOurWildIsles

Amidst a culture of hate towards trans people, this is an exceptional turnout, which must have been exhausting and gruelling for all those directly involved, for those who have received gender-affirming healthcare, and those who are still waiting for their first appointment 🏳️‍⚧️
Dr. Helen Webberley has won her appeal against the GMC in the High Court and is able to return to medical practice in a huge win for trans healthcare. gendergp.com/helen-webberley…

Note: Mike and I are actually @dmuleicester alumni, not @PHRC_DeMontfort, although there are some overlaps, of course. Sorry about that.

Troublesome and fascinating thread, in equal measure, around the politics of trees, community and the law. Paul does some amazing work 👏
So, I find myself 30ft in the air up a tree in Wellingborough- surrounded by police, security & tree surgeons- trying to prevent an illegal tree felling. How did I end up here? Here’s an outrageous story of nature destruction & collusion between authorities & private developer 🧵

As @jsdjukes says here, our co-written article went live on Friday! My first academic publication (& hopefully not my last) concerning reflections on my photographic PhD practice on heritage oak trees and its involvement in 'Queer Constellations', an exhibition at @TheMERL.
