Turkish press was even more unforgiving, harsher in its coverage of the Ugandan demonstration at its Kampala embassy, calling it a ‘tuntrum’ and describing it as ‘about a shrinking paycheck’ ‘Uganda's Türkiye tantrum is really about a shrinking paycheck’ turkiyetoday.com/world/what-…

The now-deceased Tooro kingdom leader visited some high-end hospitals in Kampala after feeling persistent backpain. X-rays, MRI scans later, they told him they saw nothing. Being a person of means, he flew to a hospital in Nairobi where he was diagnosed with cancer. A year later he was dead. What did the doctors in Nairobi see that the Kampala ones couldn’t? Well, Nairobi has a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan or a few. Kampala and the whole of Uganda don’t. A PET scan costs about $3m (Shs 11.7bn) or approximately 17 Land Cruisers. If there was a meeting of government officials, you would run out of space to park them. That is how many we have in Uganda but a PET Scan is not something we have been able to buy and install yet. observer.ug/business/medical…

The proceedings before the criminal division of the High Court in the Besigye-Lutaale trials are a no-winner, moronic process supervised by (in)Justice Baguma. The State-appointed lawyers DO NOT represent Besigye and Lutaale in any form or shape ( their report herein is instructive). Any attention to them in that regard is unwarranted, unfair, and unnecessary. All attention may have to be turned on the trial judge, who seems robotic, unaware, or intentionally disregards due process/fair hearing - never seen an unwise and willfully incompetent fellow like him in judicial robes.

Memorable quotes from the sharp-penned Ugandan journalist, commentator, and photographer Timothy Kalyegira .@TimKalyegira who went missing for four days before he was charged on Monday, June 29: -"In this day and age, ruling people for 40 years is a mark of shame, not genius." -Ultimately we all die poor. Nobody takes their six-bedroom house to the grave." -On Uganda's economy: "Primitive accumulation of primitive wealth, by primitive people, for primitive reasons." -"The only profitable economic activity left is praising the First Family, praising government projects, praising Big Men, [or] running for MP." -"The people with money don't have brains and the people with brains don't have money."

Demands for decorum are tools of oppression! Being unkind to someone on Twitter and mocking their pain is not the same as abducting, torturing and killing people. Comparing the two is misguided and puts the onus on an oppressed group to observe decorum in the midst of oppression!

What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.

Those with fragile sensibilities will forgive us for retelling our communities’ abuse at the hands of those in power today. It is our reality, and if we share them, it is not to stoke any other feelings other than educating those who do not know, or elect to revise our history for political convenience #WeTellOurStory

Money matters. Phaneroo seems to have been on a borrowing spree of recent. There is an 8/2024 resolution to borrow 10bn from Equity Bank. Its signed by Apostle Grace and the wife only. /2

It is not the first time that @eddie_mutwe is being targeted, tortured and humiliated. In September of 2018, he was arrested, charged with treason and remanded in Gulu Central Prison. That case has, to this day, not been formally dismissed. When we sat on the floor of the central prison, on a Sunday afternoon, to prepare for his bail application, he, in the yellow prison uniform, had been clean shaven, and bore visible torture marks on his shoulders, back and limbs. He recounted harrowing tales of assaults to his private parts. He retold this tale in a teary public interview later upon his release. In all of this ordeal, he said something I found so profound it has stayed with me to this day. When I learnt that he had been subjected to similar treatments in the last weeks, the thoughts of his words came back to me night after another. Counsel, in less perfect English, he told me, I may be imprisoned, tortured but I am unbowed. My spirit is strong. The person doing this to me is a little man, a weak man afraid of the power of our ideas and ideals. I nearly broke into tears. I had to remind myself I had gone to prepare a prisoner for his freedom. He needed me, I presumed, to be stronger in this situation. Together with Counsel @HenryKilama, and a score other lawyers, we secured his release. I believe now, as I did then and will even stronger from here on, that @eddie_mutwe was right. For as long as he will live, his resilience surpasses the cowardice of his tormentors. He did not have the (mis)fortune of being born with a silver spoon in his mouth but he was raised right. He picked himself by his bootlaces and is raising, responsibly, a young family. He is not leeching on the public purse. As a barber, he works for every coin and has a firm believe of a better country. Small men cloth with a little power tend to over compensate for their inadequacy. But in @eddie_mutwe they picked a wrong target. Their cowardly and macabre actions will come back to bite them, or, if they live a short live, then their children and posterity will surely carry this burden.

Gen Muhoozi gloats in abducting, torturing Bobi Wine’s bodyguard Eddie Mutwe. Mutwe was kidnapped last Sunday, and CDF Muhoozi said Mutwe has been 'tuned' and forced to learn Runyakole by the Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) 'boys' observer.ug/news/muhoozi-glo…

The anger against Banyankore is unfortunate and should be redirected, but it needs to be understood. Without understanding it, it can’t be addressed. There is certainly national imbalance in distribution of opportunities in favour of Banyankore, and this can not only be seen but has also been statistically showed by government reports themselves (Eg EOC 2024). It has bred negative sentiments from others - which are not helped by arrogant responses. This doesn’t mean that all Banyankore are benefiting, NOT AT ALL. There are very many desperate Banyankore without jobs, and many places in Ankore experiencing abject poverty and neglect. However, evidence of these is not logical proof for absence of ethnic favoratism in favour of group members. It is only proof that many haven’t benefitted, yet. Even when whites were dominating blacks under Apartheid in South Africa, there were many poor whites, and there were some rich blacks. But the existence of poor whites was not proof for Apartheid not being racially discriminative - the same can be said of racial discrimination in USA, and discrimination against women. Showing poor men doesn’t take away the fact that women are not generally systemically disadvantaged. Therefore, the common response by parading poverty in Ankore misses the point, is deflective, and comes across as defensive of the dangerous direction. It should however be understood why such a response often comes out. First, many self-built, meriting, hard working Banyankore feel accused of something they haven’t benefitted from. Second, many struggling Banyankore obviously don’t see themselves in the picture of being favoured and feel (get) victimised for no reason. Third, the culprits (nepotistic and tribal beneficiaries) psychologically manipulate and mobilise other Banyankore to feel collectively targeted and fight back as a group - creating collective victimhood and fear. They make it appear as if they are being targeted simply for being Banyankore, and successfully keep the terrified Banyankore away from the fact that it is the benefitting tribalists/nepotists causing the anger from others. You will therefore note a resultant trend where ethnic voting patterns change, and inwardly solidify. You will also observe a conspicuous trend in the names of those that defend or whitewash impunity online. MK has been throwing around dangerous tribalistic lines and slurs for a while now. He is currently a big factor in endangering innocent Banyankore with his reckless unrestrained violent bigotry. How does a CDF kidnap a person (of another ethnic group) and then boast about teaching him Runyankore while torturing him! What sentiments do you think this naturally attracts? Moreover, where his chauvinistic tribalistic statements are not isolated occurrences but a clear pattern! It is not only a duty of Banyankore to condemn this dangerous fascist nonsense, but Banyankore need to note what it is causing towards them and condemn it more strongly. When such careless and arrogant behaviour (plus the inequalities) leads to ethnic violence, the primary causers are often insulated. It is the poor everyday Banyankore that they cause double victimhood. Big beneficiaries will either run to safety or use their security to protect themselves trouble. Stop blocking discussions against tribal issues (pains), or else, we are building up for something worse. Raising the matter isn’t hatred for Banyankore. Stop guilt-tripping & threatening those who raise it; silence should actually scare us. When people are quiet, you can’t know what they feel or are capable of doing. Among other measures, especially in addressing inequalities, MK must be stopped. He is fanning what he won’t be capable of stopping. It is unfortunate that his parents, who seem to be the only ones that can officially reign him in, are apparently doing nothing about it. We shouldn’t keep quiet until this explodes, none of us can expect to be safe - on all sides.
