#100DaysOfBitcoin
Day 1/100:
Yesterday I 'started' reading Programming Bitcoin and learned about elements in a finite field.
The field being a set of finite elements, where the permitted operations on these elements, i.e. addition and multiplication must be closed.

@rukundo__ and I are in Dar this week to learn how mobile money and payments actually work here.
If you're building on Bitcoin, stablecoins (USD or local currency), or anything payments adjacent, we'd love to buy you a coffee. DMs open.
We will also be at Mambo Stable this Thursday: luma.com/e3uwqpe4

1/ Earlier today, our Bitcoin engineering and security teams at Block began investigating reports of non-Bitkey wallets being drained. To proactively protect our customers, we began investigating immediately. Here’s what we found 🧵

Even with a PhD in Physics, I was always afraid of studying number theory and cryptography. They seemed far too difficult. And, in fact, they are. But all math is hard - until you get used to it. It doesn't matter whether it's continuous or discrete, analysis or finite fields. Math is hard, but it's not that much harder than any other kind of math. You just need time and consistency. That is what I am learning.

It’s one month already and I’m incredibly excited about this new journey and the opportunity to contribute to #Bitcoin in a small way. I’m especially grateful to @QalaAfrica & @superlunarhq
We're very proud to share the story of our '22 Superlunar Grant Recipient @rukundo__ . Collin discusses how a life of curiosity, activism and resilience led him to become a technologist focused on using #bitcoin to improve the lives of Ugandans. Read on: superlunar.com/post/bringing…

I am happy that one of the goals I set out to achieve has been met. This is learning how to build a utility wallet. Over the course of the next 2 - 3 weeks, I will be taking a much deeper dive into Rust (wish me luck) as I port the python library to it.
For anyone who may have stumbled upon this, I will share some updates, mostly about what I have learned and written about, and also about what I have built.
Even in times when I have been "pair programming with the rust compiler", I am glad to share that knowledge crystalizes ...

Have you ever wondered how #Bitcoin addresses are generated in your wallet?
I wrote a piece using Python to explain how these addresses are created using Bitcoin's elliptic curve (secp256k1) as part of my @QalaAfrica Bitcoin journey:

It’s so surreal that one year ago, the only thing I knew about Bitcoin was that it’s a cryptocurrency. After a series of seminars and discussions, and barely 3 weeks into the Qala program, I am immersed in and building with Bitcoin😱 Thanks @QalaAfrica for facilitating this.
