very excited to see this out of A\ this is our thesis at @erscio ! But we are building a git compatibility layer: ersc.io/blog/what-comes-afte… enterprise adoption of new source control is a big ask, so making a smooth bridge from the past to the future is a big part of our offer
New on our Engineering blog: Creating in-house source control. In May, we merged around 2,500 code changes per day. In September, we merged more than 30,000 per day. As a result, we became bottlenecked by developer infrastructure built for human (rather than agent) scale. Here, we share how we built a new version control system—and fully migrated our monorepo from git—in five months: anthropic.com/engineering/re…

a tip for friends new to Rust: Geekbench's single-core CPU benchmarks are an unreasonably helpful proxy for how snappy Rust compilation feels on a warm development loop.

i’m pretty jealous of the proliferation of javascript bundlers because the state of the art for linkers feels easily a decade behind (yes, i’m very much looking forward to trying out wild)

at work, a larger project’s autocomplete went from 1300ms to 400ms. that’s the difference between usable and unusable! i want rust to succeed and for that to happen, rust’s tooling needs to scale sublinearly with codebase size. i don’t know how do that without orphan rules

has there been any discussion of how keyword generics and the different cancellation mechanisms of synchronous and asynchronous code interact?

rust question: i hazily remember that was a demo/concept of rustc’s multi-line errors being rendered inside an editor. does anyone know what i’m referring to?

Just as GitHub was founded on Git, today we are re-founded on Copilot. From the GA of Copilot Chat, to the new Copilot Enterprise, to the Copilot Partner Program and so much more – we are expanding and infusing Copilot into every aspect of GitHub. github.blog/2023-11-08-unive…

there’s something extremely grim about the near-simultaneous expansion of sports gambling and the crackdown on online pornography

my take on whole yimby discourse is that weakening a literal rent-seeking, landed gentry is sufficiently leftist that the mechanisms used to achieve this goal are largely irrelevant

oh wait, one more example: soviet immigrants in the US and Israel are generally extremely right-wing and i don’t think it’s a good idea to engineer a population-wide shift if you want a durable, leftist state
Replying to @endsofthreads
from a tactical standpoint, i have two thoughts: - in the midterms, the dems’ polling numbers increased as the price of gas decreased - a large number of recent revolutions that toppled governments were spurred by the middle class’ sudden material deprivation
