People keep on asking me about the rules so I am open sourcing them. Here are the rules:

artists are reluctant to share what they love publicly because people who do not care or understand what it’s like to make art instantly deface their work and spit in their face, arrogantly claiming victory over the feeble human mind.
this is exactly why i’m getting reluctant sharing gen art WIPs now.
context: 1+ year working on this sharing, testing, iterating, building the whole system, then you wake up to a vibe-coded a clone, no DM/ask/nothing. The "spending a year to build something takes far too long these days" reply illustrates the whole problem here. the model didn't take a year because it didn't have to since i already did the hard parts, you copied the decisions. following the thought, if anyone can rebuild anything in 20m then the only thing left that's worth anything is the vision. and that's exactly what's being taken.
don't get me wrong: i'm pro AI. and i'm from deep ic. i've made memes, remixed stuff, riffed on internet culture forever, people who follow me know. that's not the issue here. the issue is taking an artist's unreleased work and shipping your copy first. that's stealing food from my mouth, and that's where i draw the line.
forget IP law for a sec. given you have a soul, you don't need a lawyer to know what's wrong. one DM like "hey mind if i try a version of this?" that's all it takes. again: moral. and the cost isn't just mine, been having these talks with lots of artists friends for the past months. so now every artist has to wonder if sharing process = handing out free blueprints. and that kills the best part of this place. not the internet i've lived for and want to build for.
back to creating. and now you know why i'm sharing fewer WIPs publicly, at least until i'm at peace with it.
sloptimization is a good term to describe this i think
the descendant of enshittification but fully grown up and agentic
The search to optimize “taste” will forever elude them. To me, making art is about making thousands of little decisions of how you go about your work that become “style” or whatever.
If all you want to do is take shortcuts, you will never make anything of your own.
I am a mindless consumer. I want to purchase this. I need to have it. I am braindead and governed by aesthetics. My mom let me play with her Pantone pallette sets when I was a kid and now I have no will to resist this beautifully shiny object in front of me.

A new system lets animals push back at each other. A sheepdog can drive a flock, and you can swap the animals for ducks, cats, anything else.
It started as a landscape. Then people, then buildings. Now it has to simulate how animals react.
That’s the fun of generative art: as a work develops, it seems to grow a will of its own and wander somewhere unexpectedly interesting.
