MY PLAN: -give a sincere apology that I don’t mean -say “I take full responsibility” without taking any 'actual' responsibility -say "I am humbled", whatever that means -blame other people and throw some civil servants under the bus #SueGrayReport #PartyGate #PMQs

Johnson never apologises because he wants to. He apologises when he has calculated that he has to. It is, as with so much of what he does, always a postponement, an evasion, an avoidance of consequences. He apologises only when the only alternative would be to act honourably.

As many of the country's most prominent political journalists are reduced to taking dictation from a debased Downing Street, @SamCoatesSky reminds them what they're supposed to be doing. Glorious.
'Did you lie at the despatch box, prime minister?' Our deputy political editor @SamCoatesSky has been outside Downing Street asking the prime minister and his cabinet about partygate

I thought I couldn’t be shocked any more by the shower of shenanigans in Downing Street. I was wrong. It was more riotous than we thought and more planned than we thought, there were more gatherings than we thought and more of a cover-up than we thought - he can’t pass the buck.

So he lied. Knowingly. In Parliament. A resigning offence. Any Tory MP who defends him needs to go too
This is tricky for the PM. On 12 December 2021, he was asked if there was a party in No 10 on 13 Nov 2020. He told MPs: "Mr Speaker, no. But I’m sure that, whatever happened, the guidance was followed and the rules were followed at all times." xitter.cf/bbcpolitics/status/146…

We are excited to have commenced work with St Michael's Parish Church in Linlithgow, on their project to refurbish and extend Cross House. The Category-A listed building makes a rich contribution to the townscape, and we're inspired by the church's ambition for this project.

Thank you to everyone for all you’re doing to stick to the safety measures. Today’s numbers are mixed. Cases and positivity perhaps a little less than expected but hospital and icu numbers worsening, plus tragically high mortality. There is a long way to go. Please stay at home.
