In the African Region, 4 out of 5 malaria-related deaths in 2022 were children under 5. Socioeconomic disparities put the poorest at 5x higher risk than the wealthiest.
2/3 Pregnancy lowers women’s malaria immunity, raising severe disease risks.🤰
Gender inequalities & harmful norms increase this risk further.
Untreated #malaria in pregnancy can lead to severe anaemia, maternal death & low-birth weight babies.
