once ‘great’ britain.
Electricity generation per person in the United Kingdom has fallen by a third from its early-2000s peak.
Globally, electricity generation per person has grown by more than 50% this century.
In the United Kingdom, things have moved in the opposite direction. Its generation per person peaked in 2003 and has fallen by more than a third since then.
You can see this in the chart, which shows generation per person since 1920. Today, levels are back to where they were in the late 1960s.
Some of that decline is a change in electricity imports, rather than demand: net imports have increased from 1% of electricity demand in 2010 to 9% in 2025. But it’s still true that the UK consumes much less electricity than it used to.
The most common explanation is deindustrialization: as the economy shifted from manufacturing to services, electricity demand fell. That’s part of the explanation, but far from all of it.
Sectoral data from the International Energy Agency confirms that electricity consumption in industry has fallen by one-quarter since 2005 (more if we calculate this per person). But residential and commercial electricity use has fallen by just as much.
Deindustrialization has reduced demand, but improvements in energy efficiency — such as the shift from incandescent to LED lightbulbs and the introduction of efficiency standards for appliances — have played an important role too.

NOT AT CHILI’S BABY
10.99 for a burger with fries, bottomless chips and salsa and unlimited drink.
Prices in the US have absolutely lost the plot.
$20 for a burger and fries
$4.37 a gallon for gas
$80+ for a driving lesson
$3+ for a bottle of soda
$25-$30 for a basic takeout meal
$30+ for a short Uber ride
$150+ a week for groceries for one person
$170+ a night for a “cheap” hotel
Rent prices through the roof
Everything costs more and somehow wages never seem to catch up.
At this point we’re just getting robbed.
this is actually a good thing- the r0 will be lower and the spread will be more difficult
epic alarmism tho
From our interview this AM w/ @AnnieJacobsen: The death rate for pneumonic plague is 100% unless antibiotics are given in the first 24 hours in which case it drops to 17%
The death rate for COVID was 1% and it shutdown the entire world

after all the blood, sweat and tears, the U.S. military has done the impossible:
Strait of Hormuz oil flows are back to pre-war levels
an incredible achievement - restoring oil flows to levels that never would’ve needed restoring had there not been a war in the first place 👍
Oil flows in the Strait of Hormuz have sharply rebounded:
Persian Gulf crude oil exports surpassed 14 million barrels per day last week for the first time since the Iran War began on February 28th.
This marks an over +210% increase from the ~4.5 million barrels per day low seen in March.
As a result, the 4-week average is up to 14 million barrels per day, the highest level in 6 months.
Persian Gulf crude oil exports have now recovered to ~80% of their pre-war levels.
This comes as the US military has increasingly secured the Strait of Hormuz and established a two-way shipping corridor along the coast of Oman, allowing oil convoys to resume through the waterway.
Meanwhile, refined fuel shipments, including gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, remain at only around 50% of pre-war levels, as these products are more expensive to transport than crude oil and some refineries in the Persian Gulf that were damaged during the early stages of the war have also yet to fully resume operations.
Oil flows are coming back, but the fuel market is still under intense pressure.
samsung isn’t an essential geopolitical national asset the way superintelligence is
plus anthropic 2026 revenue is already $16.2 billion- 4x revenue in just 6months
people like to think the pope is anti-ai, i read it as he wants to distinguish ai from human creation- and careful not to fall into anti humanism
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Prediction: organised religion is going to come roaring back as a response to loss of meaning in post AI world. The catholics recognise this and are getting ahead of the game
