Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has purchased one of my 2027 Awesome Auroras calendars! It means a lot and directly supports what I do.
If you haven't picked one up yet, you can do so over on my website: theauroraguy.com/products/aw…
In real life I am an esthetician (yay skincare) and decided this July that i would take 3 months off this spring/summer to chase full time. Had absolutely no idea how I was going to do that but I do what I want so I decided to get creative. Even though I’ve been splitting my time between Fairbanks and Seattle since then, I’ve now saved enough to cover my rent between May-June while I’m not taking clients, plus a down payment on a new car, while simultaneously investing in the stock market. And am building out passive income streams so that I can make an income while working remotely, which has already been working quite well! Now i am not stressing about it at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ girlbossing is cool 💅
1) this brisket slaps 2) am currently on the way to Maine if any NE friends want to hang out this week???
2 years ago today in Usk, WA (before I had my camera sadly). I’d just gotten back from spending a week in Fairbanks, then saw the October 7 aurora and then this! That was a crazy week. Drove about 8 hours each way for this and could see the pillars while driving through Spokane which was insane. I do think that being on the east side of the state makes a genuine difference even when viewing from an equally dark sky/same latitude in western WA!
The data looks great so it’ll definitely flip before sunset! I mean…we’ll see. I work til 9 and camera batteries are charged and ready to go 🫡
My mom is on vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama right now and just told me she’s staying for the hurricane. Runs in the family I guess 💀
After being home for a few hours Maia and I decided to go back out and try to find a clear patch to see this substorm. It was very foggy/hazy everywhere but we managed 😁 was filming through the sunroof lmao
We bailed while chasing because of clouds tonight, it just cleared up at the perfect time to see this substorm from the house :) ~2:35 AM

Although the storming continues at high latitudes for the moment, now is a perfect time to show exactly why Kp is better for space climate than space weather. Right now, we are back to G0 levels from a peak of G2+ levels, according to Hp30 (30-minute index). But NOAA Kp just recorded near G2 levels. Kp often reports as much as 3 hours late compared to near-real time. Kp is a great index, but it should not be used for real-time notifications.
