Kenny Omega is talking to Tokyo Sports and he's talking like a man who genuinely believes NJPW needs him. The AEW Vice President and former IWGP Heavyweight Champion made his surprise return at Ryogoku, dropped Yota Tsuji with the One-Winged Angel and has since been given a three-way non-title match at Hiroshima on 3rd November against Tsuji and Oleg Boltin with an IWGP title shot at the January 4th Tokyo Dome on the line if he wins. "Japan is my second home, so I want to win the belt in front of the New Japan fans. And that deserves the biggest stage. So, of course, I'm aiming for the Dome." "Most of today's IWGP champions have very obvious weaknesses. Tsuji is very strong in certain areas, but he lacks experience. To me, it looks like he's terrified of failing on the world stage, and that's why he's running away from my challenge. Right now, he's just imitating the top wrestlers in the world." His case for why New Japan needs him as champion was delivered with total conviction: "If I become champion, everyone will know they can't win easily, which will raise their motivation and make them work harder in training. Tsuji is just one step ahead of everyone right now. I want to be a champion whose back they can't even see." Could Kenny Omega back at the top of New Japan with the IWGP title be the shot in the arm the promotion has been looking for? #njpw
