Babies were slaughtered on SCHOOL PICTURE DAY and people have the nerve to say “well if you don’t like or leave” when you say this country is not living to its full potential. Absolutely disgusting.
This, from the Oregonian, is possibly the most heartbreaking thing I've ever read.

I think a good reporter would ask which engine room positions called out, to see if WSF was making this post in good faith. If it’s a bunch of lower paid or unlicensed crew vs. the chief engineers this framing is disingenuous. 1/
This morning, 23 engine room employees called in sick. Every employee qualified to fill those positions has declined to fill them and keep the ferries running. (1/6)

If it is the engineers, I am pretty unsympathetic to their choice to break the law. Police and fire often can’t strike because it would jeopardize “public health, safety, and welfare”. Thats true of those running our state highway system here in WA! It’s an edge case scenario.

DOT needed to build redundancy to prevent this, and the RCW makes that clear as well… but there’s a reason state law says they explicitly can’t do this. 😐 And the consequences in the statute are not going to be good.

In 1964, a 22-year-old in Goldwater's campaign, Paul Weyrich, realized that while American Christians hadn't turned out for Goldwater... they might be prompted to organize into a directable voting bloc if nudged by the right wedge issue. He set out to find one. 1/3

So essentially, the Trump administration is kicking off the most profitable customers. These people could lose money with a money printing machine.
Dr Oz says the Trump administration will kick more than a million people off health insurance because some of them have "never filed a claim"

Pearl clutching about how children can access Narcan in a public space is like being horrified they could access an AED.
I visited Seattle’s $165 million dollar downtown library and it was OVERRUN with drug addicts. Not only is this library filled with adults who are high on drugs, but they also offer FREE fentanyl test strips, syringes and injectable narcan that anyone, including children, can access. Visitors have complained of “foul odors”, unusable restrooms and harassment by the homeless and I experienced all of this while at this location. Seattle residents just passed a tax increase to raise $480 million dollars for libraries just like this one and this is unfortunately the state that they’re in:

My Dad took me to the salmon bake on Blake Island off Seattle every year as a kid. We took his boat, never the Argosy ferry. Year after year he developed a worsening allergy to shellfish but he continued to eat the chowder they served while you waited in line. When I was 11… 🧵

Thinking about that story today as a legacy of the ACA. A routine checkup with a known physician is the time when 40 year old men say “hey, I think I have a new allergy”. It’s when they mention lumps, pain, and more — making that care accessible saves lives. 6/

I do file this under “chaotic things that happened because we didn’t have health insurance”, but I don’t think 11 years driving boats back is a common resulting experience or a policy story!

NEW: Federal immigration officials have detained more than 10,000 people in the last 5 days, a major surge that has stemmed from a push at ICE to increase arrests. The WH has wanted more arrests. The expectation inside ICE is 2K arrests a day — up from 1K earlier this year.

In wake of Sister Letty’s detainment and confiscation of her rosary, Brownsville’s Bishop Flores speaks out: “protocols that make it possible for a religious sister, or anyone, to be detained and handcuffed while peacefully walking to Church on a Sunday morning are wildly disturbing.”

Hebert Ibarra Castro is a 20-year-old mariachi from San Antonio who was detained by ICE on his way home from performing at a birthday party. Still in his mariachi attire, a detention facility worker taunted him: "If you sing me a song, I'll let you go." What was meant as mockery, mariachis across San Antonio have turned into an act of solidarity and are banding together to sing for his release. Hebert came to the United States when he was just 4 years old with his family, fleeing violence in Mexico. Hebert’s wife is a U.S. citizen and is desperate for his return. My office is working to bring Hebert home where he belongs, with his young wife and family.

Sister Leticia "Letty" Ugboaja was walking to Sunday Mass in McAllen, Texas, when federal immigration officers stopped her, confiscated her rosary, and put her in handcuffs. DHS would not respond to requests for comment. The Catholic nun from Nigeria is a nurse who entered the country legally. washingtonpost.com/immigrati…
