I just think it’s very interesting how so many people are facing serious material harm and dealing with real problems that affect their daily lives, and yet we have to listen to American Jews whose main concern seems to be their discomfort with the way people talk about Israel.
For @WSJFreeEx, I spoke with Jewish New Yorkers about the Democratic Party's leftward drift and animosity toward Israel. It's not just polls—the people I talked to are concerned. As some said, this isn't the Democratic Party they once knew.

Wasn't expecting this one but that's on me!
Jason Alexander says he feared visiting Palestine as a Jew until 10 Palestinians protected him during an Israeli army raid in Ramallah
“How much of a risk would I be taking as an American Jew walking into Palestinian cities? And Mohammed said, ‘The greatest dishonor that could happen to a religious Muslim is to allow harm to come to an invited guest’”
“And he said, ‘Jason, if they had to, they’ll take a bullet for you.’ And what was so interesting about that trip is, we were having lunch in Ramallah with a bunch of actors and artists at a sort of outdoor restaurant”
“And the Israeli army was conducting a raid on a bank that they thought had terrorist ties a couple blocks away. And they must have, to announce themselves, just shot into the air. And I remember 10 of those guys at the table surrounding me. And I went, ‘Oh my God, he wasn’t kidding. They’re not going to let me get hurt’”
pretty antisemitic to say the vandalism of a *checks notes* multinational bank is antisemitic
The vandalism and destruction at the Capital One branch on 86th Street is deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
I have been in contact with the NYPD regarding this incident and have urged an immediate investigation, including whether this is a potential antisemitic hate crime.
There is no place for hate, intimidation or violence in New York City.

Comptroller you should divest from the Israeli equities too. So far this year:
Israeli equities: 6.86% return
S&P 500: 12.63% return
The economic relationship between New York City and Israel is deeply important, bringing substantial investment into our city and generating strong returns for our pension funds.
Our funds invest around the world, including more than $285 million in Israel, primarily in equities. Israel remains one of the world’s most dynamic and innovative economies, and those holdings remain an important part of our portfolio. They also make clear that New York City’s pension funds are not engaging in BDS.
I expressed my deep appreciation for the Israel-NYC economic relationship during my campaign for comptroller, and that appreciation remains unchanged. I also pledged to make every investment decision free of politics, based solely on its financial merits and my fiduciary responsibility to 750,000 current and future retirees.
We apply those same principles to Israel Bonds. At present, a number of challenges, including constraints related to a rules change on our short-term investment desk made by the previous comptroller, prevent us from making direct purchases. We continue to evaluate this investment, as we do all potential investments.
Anyone suggesting that this means I am giving up on Israel is trying to turn the ordinary rebalancing and management of a pension portfolio into a political issue. That is simply not the case. Our commitment to investing in Israel remains clear in the hundreds of millions of dollars in Israeli equities that our pension funds continue to hold.
Like many Jewish New Yorkers, my deep personal connection to Israel is a part of who I am. It will not change. As New York City comptroller, I also have a solemn duty to safeguard our city’s pension funds, and I will not shirk that responsibility. I will continue to honor both commitments with integrity.
