Today I had the honour of delivering the final Time for Reflection of this session of The Scottish Parliament as Chair of SYP. Last Sunday marked 5 years since I lost my mum at 17. Youth work made me the person I am today. It not only changed my life, but saved it too.

This must become the new normal. This is excellent progress, however, young people are the group affected most by period poverty and lack of accessible products, so why aren’t sustainable options being rolled out in schools too?

A formal letter from the Scottish Youth Parliament dated 23 October 2025, addressed to Ben Macpherson MSP, Minister for Further and Higher Education. The letter expresses concern over funding challenges in Scotland’s further and higher education sectors. It cites financial deficits at the University of Dundee (£30 million) and Dundee and Angus College (£2.35 million), and urges the Scottish Government to protect funding and maintain the quality of educational institutions.

This article is an awful (but unfortunately not surprising) example of how period products are not provided to young people with the dignity they deserve. Women are often the ones subjected to rulings such as this one, with men often being the ones subjecting them to such (1/4)
