Five shoebill eggs have been successfully incubated and hatched through the Shoebill Programme in Zambia’s Bangweulu Wetlands. With only two other shoebill eggs documented as having been successfully incubated artificially, this work is contributing valuable knowledge about the incubation and care of this Vulnerable species.
From candling eggs and tracking their development to replicating the care provided by wild parents, the team is developing and documenting each stage of the process.
Leading the programme are Programme Manager Maggie Hirschauer and Programme Technician Mupanga Mwewa. Born and raised in the wetlands, Mupanga began by cutting reeds to help build the facility. Today, he helps care for the birds and dreams of becoming a wildlife veterinarian.

Joint Operation Success as Two Suspected Poachers get Arrested North of Kruger National Park
A joint law enforcement operation undertaken by Kruger National Park Nxanatseni North Rangers, SANParks Air Services and Greater Kruger Environment Protection Fund (GKEPF), has led to the successful arrests of two suspected poachers. The suspects were found to be in possession of snares and poison.
No carcass was discovered in the vicinity, and it is suspected that the suspects were caught before any wildlife was killed. Poison is often used to lace carcasses and target predator species: shorturl.at/JqzOr
You are not allowed to go off on your own not in kruger nor the sands. If you do not have a qualified guide or ranger with you. Go and do it and you are dead and then the animal gets the blame #wildearth
She has learned a good deal to get the kill in a tree as soon as possible. Then make sure nothing heard the killing then move to a better spot to eat and relax further.. very smart girl very smart #wildearth

Sorry but how can Martial Eagles be a big problem. They are an endangered specie so who is the big problem in reality. Same story with Elephants o they are a problem. Humans forget they are the big problem. Everytime they go off road they damage the bush. #wildearth
