Did you know you can visit an industrial pig #slaughterhouse in #Denmark? What does this have to do with Danish national identity?
Proud to have published this with @AmAnthroJournal
Meet the “citizen-consumers” and “happy pigs” of porcine nationalism

I am excited to finally share my first publication with @TheJRAI based on my ongoing research on #AnimalWelfare inspection in the EU.

This article casts an anthropological lens on the moral dilemmas that arise in the enforcement of European legislation, examining how these correspond to #AuditCulture logics that dilute the care of animal welfare enforcement through the regulatory capture of veterinary care.
So grateful for the willing participation of inspectors and the support of EURCAW-Pigs. Thanks to the editors and reviewers at JRAI for their insightful feedback that helped to shape this article.
It is also #OpenAccess! #PigFarming #AnimalWelfare #AnimalLaw #EU
This sounds like a must read:“As the state withdraws from market regulation, “progressive farming” empowers affluent farmers to navigate erratic markets while sidelining smaller farmers, who are left to make high-risk investments without
sufficient support.” #Agriculture #Anthro

I reviewed this book for #Ethnos this year and absolutely adored it! Dave has a way with words that is so precise, eloquent, and incisive. This is a modern classic! So delighted for Naisargi! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Congrats to Naisargi N. Davé whose book "Indifference" is the winner of the 2024 Gregory Bateson Prize, given by @culanth!

ALT Cover of Indifference: On the Praxis of Interspecies Being by Naisargi N. Davé. The cover is light gray, and features drawings of different people from the torso up, with empty thought and speech bubbles over their heads. There are several animals around the people, including a cheetah, deer, birds, a cat, and a dog. There are also multicolored circles patterned around the people.

Even though I am organizing this event - it is a happy coincidence that the day I’m teaching a session on decolonizing anthropology with my Master’s students is the day that #AmberBenezra presents her work on decolonizing microbial anthropology at @AIAS_dk

Looking forward to seeing some new and familiar faces at tomorrow’s seminar with Amber Benezra who will ask what does #Anthropology and race have to do with #microbes! 🦠
