Looks like team is fully immersed in The Xanaissance! Happy 34th to X and all who celebrate Bogey going Boom!💥
“I think everybody turns into a different animal in the playoffs, either better or worse.”
After closing the regular season on a 41-18 run, the Padres reached a new level in their two-game sweep of baseball’s highest-scoring team: nytimes.com/athletic/7648767…
I present to thee a new era:

Have been continually impressed with Ethan Salas’s polish and poise being thrown into a pennant race. He’s had a bunch of moments and games already that have all contributed to winning. He’s a winning player. 20 years old. Unreal. He’s incredible.

It’s the weird injury shit that the Padres players get away with on this team like this Laureano hip, Arraez/Jake/Fermin’s concussions, Joe’s kettle bell incident, X’s brittle wrists, Fernando’s bike wrist thing…it’s probably totally random & bad luck or is it an environment & organizational culture that plays it loose with their players’ long term health and emphasizes short-term “posting” mentality.
The Padres are also in the bottom third of orgs in recent years of playing time lost to the IL but that could be due to the team’s organizational philosophy of allowing their guys to play through injuries or not pushing players to self-report their injuries.
It feels like there are times when players should be on the IL when maybe they should have done so earlier.
Manny grimacing after every time he swings a couple of weeks ago during his slump is another example.
Manny boasts about posting, but should that be lauded?
It’s exactly that “old-school” selfish mentality that irks me, meanwhile progressive orgs in sports emphasize load management, injury prevention and team rotation/depth.
Some orgs emphasize or allow for certain type of mentality to be more pervasive than others. It’s about organizational culture/communication (educating players/building trust so they disclose their injuries that could be detrimental to the team), incentives and priorities.
The knock on effects aside from obvious ones of players performing better b/c they’re not hurt or hiding injuries is **consistency**.
How much of how damn streaky the hitters are on this squad (looking at you Manny, X, Jake) because they’re in prolonged slumps due to nagging injuries that could be solved by a trip to the IL?
A year ago, Ramón Laureano suffered a fractured finger and faced a "0 percent" chance of playing in the postseason. Now, three months after hip surgery, the Padres left fielder is giving himself slim odds of an October return. It's better than nothing: nytimes.com/athletic/7588127…

This feels so much like Nola 2.0 where the org invested so much into a bad asset and are slow to move away from it. Easy to cut Castellanos who cost nothing but when you stupidly trade two controllable assets it’s harder to let go.

Durán has much better underlying numbers than Fermin it’s a bad job by Stammen to use Fermin as the primary catcher

Fermin 0 for last 26 over last 9 starts. Solid stuff. Avg 133 and ops 404. Zero business being in the Majors

I swear something’s not right with Fermin, possibly as a result of that two-ish week stretch where he was just eating fouled off pitches to the face and body. And when Camp comes back, I think I prefer Duran stays up over Fermin, and it might not be close for me either.

Against all odds, this team has secured at least a .500 road trip through two tough places to play and has beaten Logan Gilbert and the Miz. Just enjoy the ride, man. What else can you say.
Tatis Jr. is human; this bandwagon idiot doesn’t represent all Padres fans, certainly not me.
Nando is a Padre; I will always root for him as long as he’s a Padre - he’s given me more to cheer for in his time so far than this mistake & his recent slump…Keep the Faith.
