Please leave our mosquitos alone. We don’t have nuclear weapons. This is our last line of defense against your lot.
Just please leave us alone. Have you not done enough? Leave us alone please. Leave our mosquitoes alone. I am begging you people. 😭😭😭😭😭

Inside America's only internet sea cable maker
Inside America's only internet sea cable maker
99% of international internet traffic travels through undersea cables. As AI and cloud computing drive demand, there's only one company in America that's capable of both making and laying them.

Nearly every phone and computer on Earth relies on one plain-text file to know what time it is.
When a country changes its clocks with a few weeks’ notice, or Morocco pauses daylight saving for Ramadan, someone has to update that file. Since 02005, that someone has been Paul Eggert, a computer science professor at UCLA, who does it as a volunteer.
Take a look at this great data visualization to see the full story:

Some magical progress towards "magic state" in quantum!
Our @GoogleQuantumAI team has demonstrated "magic state cultivation" on physical hardware for the first time. The result is a 40x error reduction on our Willow processor vs. previous methods, achieving a state-of-the-art 99.99% logical fidelity.
It's another step towards useful, error-corrected quantum computers to help solve the hardest problems. The result is published in Science today, watch the video below to see how it works
Taking a minute off from being a Mobstarr and sending love to Tyla.
Just seen videos from her tour and something looks…off. I hope she is surrounded by people who have her best interest at heart, love her, and will keep her safe. I know how dark that industry can get.
A failing country

British politicians like to think we’re global leaders, setting trends and precedents (net zero, infinite asylum, giving up Chagos islands, AI safety institute, the NHS); but in reality nobody is copying us because they can see how terrible the outcomes are.
Damn, so have more kids then. Also tell your government to stop interfering in other peoples countries.
At my red state hometown fair, and the people here are at least 60% nonwhite. It was not like this even 15 years ago. The pace of change is extreme. Foreign languages, foreign accents when they do speak English, foreign styles, foreign norms.
I don’t hate these people. Lots of happy families etc. But I feel as at home as I did in Taipei. I enjoyed visiting Taipei. I enjoy travel generally. But the premise of travel is that you eventually come home. My home is gone. I’m an eternal traveler now. My home doesn’t exist. This makes me profoundly sad. And angry.

Excellent article in the Wall Street Journal on Britain's unsustainable welfare spending:
— 7 million people (over 10% of the UK population) now claim at least one or more sickness or disability benefit. This is up 60% in the past 6 years.
— The UK will spend over £100 billion pound this year on sickness and disability benefits. This is projected to increase to £130 billion a year by 2030.
— No other Western country has seen such a rise in disability claims. In the US, 10.6 million people claim some form of federal disability payment, despite the population being 5x larger.
— 1 in 7 new cars sold in the UK are under the Motability scheme; however, only 10% of cars are modified for a disability. In one dealership, 25 out of 26 cars they sold in August were all under the Motability scheme.
— Charities, consultants, YouTubers and TikTokers have all sprung up, telling people how to maximise benefit access. Some of these videos receive hundreds of thousands of views. Over 1,000 people a day are signing on for PIP.
— According to a Government survey from 2024, 25% of the UK's working age population could theoretically be classed as disabled under the current criteria and access these benefits.
— A minimum wage worker who works 40 hours per week would take home around £1,880 per month after tax; however, if you are classed as too sick to work and claim PIP, you can take home £2,000 tax free per month.

Congratulations!!
I am officially a permanent resident of the UK 🇬🇧
It wasn’t an easy road to get here. It took six years, four jobs, nearly £10k, and a few incredibly stressful months when I was laid off on a work visa in 2023 (0/10, would not recommend).
But it has all been worth it. It’s very popular to be negative about the UK these days, but I think we forget how lucky we are to live here.
Street food markets. Meal deals. A cup of tea to cure all your ails. History around every corner. The intellectual home of classical liberalism and Adam Smith. The beauty of Cornish beaches, Oxford’s colleges, Sussex’s villages, the Highland lochs, the moors of Yorkshire.
The way the Thames looks when the sunset hits after London’s long summer evenings.
From arriving on the Eurostar train in the height of Covid in September 2020 to now, it’s been a journey.
I love it here, and I hope this helps those of you here to remember to love it too. ❤️
