The last California Senate appointment before today: 30 years ago, after Republican Sen. Pete Wilson ran for and won the governorship over Democrat Dianne Feinstein. Wilson then appointed state Sen. John Seymour to his Senate seat, but Seymour was defeated in 1992 by Feinstein.

As I explained to the Gap, I already have three pairs of pants, so I'm all set for next decade or so. I think this plan makes more sense:
