Every day I pass by a small fishing supplies store. It is never open, but through the window I can see all the artifacts of a hobby that I have never once tried. A hobby that derives from a practical need but has long since outgrown it, that lives on as a spark of useless humanity. It brings me joy.

I made a film. Every chapter of technological modernity has searched for an aesthetics adequate to its time. Time and again, the pursuit of the new and the beautiful has involved looking back to the past. There has never been progress without nostalgia, or novelty without tradition. The film tells this story through the history of architecture and design, from the mid-nineteenth century to present-day Silicon Valley.

Spectral Beings is now running live on Opensea, Raster, and Verse. This is one of my favourite collections, and now can be experienced in the way it was meant to; I did not have access to Art Blocks when it was was released in September 2021. All attributes are exactly the same as in the original, and most mints are not perceptibly different; I did fix some minor bugs so that all beings look brilliant and avoid blowout. Some provenance details and links below:
coming soon: Spectral Beings in real time. I will replace the original IPFS .mp4 by a real-time WebGL code, also on IPFS. Leave complaints below✌️

Spectral Beings lives on its own contract. The original series was rendered as .mp4 in p5.js. The original p5.js code is stored in the contract, and can be run in online p5.js viewers. It could easily be wrapped to run from a secondary on-chain contract, since p5.js is on chain. The new lightweight shader code is stored on IPFS. Currently I am using my domain as a gateway; due to structure in the original contract, it wasn't possible to route directly to a host on-chain. I may migrate the gateway to IPFS in the future.

Viewing notes: you can click and then freely rotate around the Being. On my machine, performance is noticeably better when opening in an external tab.
