with all these crises all at once, it's hard to prioritize which is the most important. Or so you'd think. They are all very important. They are all VERY important!. But bottomline is without this planet earth.... *we will every one of us die*. So let's work on that, shall we?

Private jets are flying into Toronto as some of the worldβs biggest billionaires and CEOs gather for PM Carneyβs investment summit.
Investment shouldnβt just make the rich richer. It should create good jobs, strengthen communities and make life better for everyone. #cdnpoli

Today marks the 19th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), a landmark moment in the recognition and protection of Indigenous rights around the world.
I think the liberals would have veterans of several recent theatres on their side. After all they lost their therapies, housing, benefits and were left homeless and destitute. And then there's the beef farmers who prob have rifles to protect their herds. Who are pretty T/Oed atm.

Injustice happens in empty courtrooms. But a growing movement of volunteer court watchers is showing up & documenting what they see. This powerful short film-"The Court Watchers"-tells the story. *Score by Fiona Apple. Narration by Jesse Williams.*

I've been reviewing what I learned about Γmile Durkheim's theory of #anomie and Robert Merton's #straintheory in relation to suicide and murder recently. Wonder what got me started in that? Hmmm what is #psychosis ?

I used to think the explosion of mental health diagnoses - depression, anxiety, ADHD β was due to psychiatry. Now I see it as something far uglier and more problematic: the pathologizing tendency. Psychiatry is the prime example of it, but it doesnβt end there (1/8)

Let me try then. There were layers of disorders going on. BPD II wasn't diagnosed till the trial was in progress and the forensic psychiatrist interviewed her. Meanwhile for 3 yrs she was left tilting at windmills. Symptom mgmt rather than treatment. Which in some cases.....
can actually make things worse. At the beginning, imagine if her care team had known what they were dealing with, and had better understanding of what it costs someone to flip thru xR meds in quick progression, she may not have strangled her kids and tried to kill herself.
You should look up the primatologist Frans de Waal. He'd absolutely disagree with you.

You know whatβs absolutely insane?
We live in a world with more than enough wealth and resources for no one to be hungry and no one to be homeless.
Donβt tell me we canβt feed everyone. Donβt tell me we canβt house everyone because WE CAN!
Weβve just decided that extreme wealth can coexist with extreme poverty, and somehow convinced ourselves thatβs normal.
Itβs not a lack of resources, itβs a lack of priorities.
IMO it's not AI itself that's the issue. It's the force/speed of the rollout and elite/white factors that it contains. AI could do a lot of good for the world. So they should stop pushing and do it right.
As more & more of the public turns against AI - because, at 4 years in, people are starting to see it impact their lives in a negative way - a common response is some AI bro proclaiming, "you're going to be left behind, I'm making great things with AI."
But those "great things" are likely what's interrupting people's lives & causing them to dislike AI in the first place.
In short: the only type of people who like AI are those who either don't care or enjoy how much their actions harm others.
