It wouldn’t surprise me if we were working fewer hours a week in the next 5 to 10 years Just 100 years ago, working six days a week was common. Today, five is the standard. Maybe four is next.

Design systems are a solved problem. I think we spend far too much time building and maintaining them. Today, a well-defined AI skill, built with the team’s rules and standards, can automate much of that work.

We are close to the moment designers will not need Figma anymore. If you have a good design system repo, you just need a canvas to see all the info in a simple way. Here is an example. youtu.be/5E8n3CItlHM?si=Mcx4…

Writing code is becoming a commodity.

I think design will become more automated than we expect in the next 6 to 12 months. Connect analytics and user interviews to an AI agent, let it work overnight, and get a designed and built feature. We can do this today. Making it easy is the next step.

Pure product design is over. The models will be as good or better than the top designers today. You must prepare for that. Right now they’re not in a lot of areas — but they’re already close. Better than some mid / jr level designers but you still need someone that understands the craft to steer the direction. And that’s why there’s a lot of mid stuff coming out recently. Because people that know no better are shipping slop. In the future the models will be able to steer just as well as you can, which is why you need to learn the product design process from beginning to end. This is what the “member of technical staff” title represents. You’re an operator, I’m an operator — everyone becomes an operator. And in order to operate properly, you should learn the process of shipping from beginning to end. Just ask the model, the model will help you figure it out. This is how you will stay afloat. Pure product design is over.

Slowly but surely, I’m moving from designer to designer-developer.

Can you please explain the process? This is something I try to do also.

AI has made me fall in love with design again. I can turn ideas into precise designs through conversation, without technical limits holding me back. And I’m enjoying every second of it.

It is not a nice-to-have. Designers must push code to production.

Pushing code to production as a designer feels powerful. (I don’t know how to write code).

I enjoy designing more now than ever before. Using AI correctly, breaking work into simple tasks, asking one thing at a time, and making decisions step by step has made my design process faster, more precise, and much more enjoyable.

I believe one reason Tesla FSD isn’t fully approved in the EU is fear of its impact on the European car industry. After trying it myself, no one can convince me humans drive better.

AGI may not need one big breakthrough. It may happen when AI learns enough skills and knows how to use them together. At some point, AI may simply become generally intelligent.

Design systems are about to become 95% autonomous. My prediction: within a year, AI will create, maintain, document, and evolve company design systems with almost no human intervention.

Many designers talked last week about the new euro banknote designs. But I almost never use cash anymore. And you probably don’t either.

Car companies that fail to achieve full self-driving within the next five years will be left behind and may disappear.

I have developed many practical ways for designers to work better with AI. I do not have the energy to create new YouTube videos right now, but I would be happy to share what I know in a podcast interview. Send me a message if you are interested.

After 500 km in a Tesla that drove itself using Full Self-Driving, I will say it clearly: If you can buy a Tesla with FSD and still choose another car, you are choosing old technology on purpose. It is like buying a Nokia after the iPhone was invented.
