I’ve been somewhat baffled by the debate around how to regulate BNPL, particularly as the US and UK move in different ways. But ultimately the case for stronger consumer protection is getting hard to miss.. Nearly half of US users report a late payment

There is a legitimate counterfactual question: if tighter rules reduce access to BNPL, what happens next? Do people move to more expensive credit? Or just borrow and spend less?

We need evidence on that. And if consumption falls, I’d like to know what consumption. Missing an essential purchase is different from skipping something BNPL made easier to buy. But unless I’m missing something, I don’t think the absence of that evidence is a reason to wait

Interesting paper on a fairly basic problem with AI evaluations: we often test systems as if their behavior will remain stable cl-eval.github.io/

Very relevant to the evaluation work I’ve been doing on customer-facing agents, where the real question is how behavior changes across users, context, and time

The implications for micro and small businesses feel much bigger than they first appear. If AI agents increasingly become the ones choosing products and services, then digital inclusion starts to look very different

I’m writing a brief that uses that experiment as the starting point for what I think could be a new agenda for digital and financial inclusion in the agentic economy. Heiko, if you’re interested, I’d love to share the draft and get your thoughts!

Such an interesting read - great explainer on the roots and future of agentic commerce

Every tech CEO for the last 30 years: College is useless. drop out of college and build something. Find a trade. Also every tech CEO: *only hires from Stanford/MIT/Harvard* Also every tech CEO: *spends millions getting their mid kids into Stanford/MIT/Harvard*
BREAKING: Chris Power CEO of Hadrian says “Everyone should tell their kids to quit college & get welding degrees” "The country needs you." “The next 2 decades is blue collar.” Hadrian is also bringing back Pepperidge Farms & baking. “All the white-collar jobs are going to get automated.” “We’re gonna see massive hyperinflation in blue-collar salaries.” "I think one of the greatest opportunities for private capital — apart from public-private investment alongside the Department of War (@DeptofWar) — is to build Chick-fil-A’s & bars around all of our factories. That’s free alpha. Please come set up franchises around all of our factories. We need to eat so we can work harder for the country." Great article on Kenya's MSME sector. I particularly like the concept of 'stability entrepreneurs' - a testament to the resilience and vital role these small firms play in the economy. Their importance in providing stability amidst volatility can't be understated. #Kenya #MSME

It's an interesting data point that you can predict something will be ubiquitous when it still has only .4% of potential users, and yet you totally can. I remember this memo, and it was not seen as a risky prediction at the time. Insightful, for a big company, but not risky.
On this day in 1995: Bill Gates sent an urgent memo to his executives It was about the Internet. He called it a “tidal wave”… … “the most important development since the PC.” At the time, just 0.4% of the world’s population was using it. And on TV, it was joke material:
