THE EDUCATION AVENGERS is about more than remarkable people. It is about the ideas they embody, the conditions they create for human flourishing, and the extraordinary things that happen when ordinary people decide children are worth the fight.
@JeanneAllen introduces readers to a new class of heroes who saw children being failed and decided they could not look away.
They did not set out to become heroes. Most began with a child, a question, or a concern they could no longer ignore. They refused to accept systems that asked children to wait—for relevance, dignity, happiness, or belonging.
These are stories of resistance and resurrection. Stories of people from vastly different beginnings whose lives point to the same truth: no matter the circumstances, there is something in each of us that is called to fight.
Through twelve extraordinary lives, Allen explores what creates human flourishing, why some communities thrive while others struggle, and what becomes possible when purpose, dignity, courage, freedom, joy, hope, and opportunity take root. This is a book about people—and the enduring ideas that shape lives, strengthen communities, and restore hope.

A new week of competing priorities has me returning to The Education Avengers—and the people whose stories remind me what deserves our attention, and why.
“They did not plan to make a heroic stand. They set out to solve problems that systems designed to help children had failed to address. They do not spend their time scornful of what is broken. They build what works. They reject the lies that the poor cannot learn, that dropouts are failures, that some children are simply ‘bad,’ or that children born differently should be accommodated but never challenged.
“They believe the best of people. They would rather build than fight for rhetorical victories.
“We need them in our communities.
“We need them in our schools.
“We need them in our conversations, our institutions, and our lives.”
“Before they were Avengers, they were simply people who could no longer look away. They simply decided that our young people were worth it.”
A little inspiration from The Education Avengers to start the week. Here's to the people who see what's possible and do something about it!
Happy Monday! Here's to a great week ahead.

🎒 Public education looks different from what it once did 50 years ago. Or 25 years ago. Or even six years ago.

Powerful testimony about role microschools - specifically 2026 #YassPrize winner The Learning Lounge - play not only in the lives of their students, but communities at large: "People should pay attention to what’s happening at The Learning Lounge, because the children who attend this school, the families who are part of this community, and the leader blazing a trail here are nowhere near done."

CER statement on @GovKathyHochul's decision to opt-in to the Education Freedom Tax Credit for @NYGov:
"We congratulate New York school leaders, students and families on the Governor's decision after many months to allow New Yorkers to participate in the federal tax credit scholarship program.
While her statement went to great pains to validate her support for funding public education, we couldn't agree more that ‘this program has the potential to bring millions of additional dollars to New York students and families without taking a single dollar from public schools or our state or local budgets.’
In fact, it will help more children succeed regardless of education sector, and at the end of the day, that’s what really good policymaking should be about. This news is a win for New York and more importantly a win for its families and children." – at Gotha, FL
"Every parent wants their child to have a great education and the best possible chance to succeed. That’s what guides my decisions as Gov... I’m not going to leave money on the table when it could help our kids."

"I think that, as a governor, our role is really to find ways we can provide opportunities and not dictate that every child should follow the same path. We shouldn’t be deciding where they get an education. That should be up to parents." (@IAGovernor at the 2026 Power of Innovation Summit in Philadelphia.)
What's holding governors back from opting in to the federal education tax credit?
❌ Parents
❌ Taxpayers
