While World Cup soccer has center stage this summer, a lesser-known sporting event just wrapped up in Israel. The Maccabiah Games, often referred to as the “Jewish Olympics”, had over 8000 athletes representing over 50 countries, competing in 45 sports, from June 29 to July 12. Pictured is US swimmer Joshua Berlow in the 100m butterfly at the Wingate Institute, in Netanya. The 10-lane Olympic-spec pool has some west-facing fenestration, bringing in late-day pools of sunlight, as I managed to capture in this frame. A big congratulations to Alysa Liu on winning Gold for the USA in the Women’s Free Skate event at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. In only her second Olympic appearance, Liu became the first U.S. woman to stand atop the podium at the games since Sarah Hughes in 2002.
