In response to the great answers I received about this question, I made a template that can be used for your next video project to get it organized from very the beginning. It’s completely free. Get it here: editvideofaster.gumroad.com/…
Scenario: You're editing a brand new project. Your rate and all that money stuff is already set. Pre-production is just underway. You're meeting with the producer, director, and client. Nothing has been filmed. What questions are you asking? #postchat
Any chance I know someone in the DMV video industry that is familiar with Haitian Creole and/or knows on-screen Haitian Creole speaking talent?
Tried out the new Adobe Podcast thing. Original audio recording w/ nothing added to it except +3 dB on Levels on A1. Adobe Podcast on A2. Only significant difference I can tell is Adobe Podcast just made it tons louder. Had to drop it -9 to balance it with the original. Thoughts?
Tested out OBS as it was overwhelmingly recommended. Very good quality. I have a couple issues to work out still like figuring out if I can record my camera separately so it's not flattened into the final recorded file. But based on this first recording, I think this'll work. TY!
In need of opinions on screen capturing software. Been happily using Camtasia for years but need to upgrade my license for my new computer. ScreenFlow is much cheaper ($169 vs. $299). Worth making the switch? Using a MacBook Pro for what it’s worth.

289 votes • Final resultsJust read this lengthy thread about becoming a YouTube editor and all these things you need. The recurring theme was “reel and portfolio are essential and you won’t get work without them.” And then of course the “take my course!” call-to-action. This isn't great advice IMO. 1/3
I’ve been cutting successfully for 14 years now. My reel is a decade old and I don’t have a portfolio. I cut for YouTube, companies, and myself. The advice I’d give to an aspiring editor (for YouTubers or elsewhere) is to EDIT VIDEOS. Experience reigns supreme. 2/3
"Why does Premiere keep crashing?!?!! Worst software ever!"
Hmm... maybe because you have Chrome, AE, Media Encoder, Spotify, Word, Safari, Messages, and Photoshop all open and running off your 8 GB of RAM while editing your 4K footage at full resolution for an Instagram video.

13 years “in the biz” and I finally learned how to make a 3D cube in AE last night. There’s a lesson in that somewhere.
