I didn't feel like teens needed their own genre of books. I wrote the Outsiders like I'd written for the 8 years before, because I like to write. Jane Austen is my current fav author & I don't see that changing.

Generalizing how teenagers read is silly. Some like fiction, some like nonfiction. Some like fantasy, some like romance. I was reading adult thrillers and Regency romance in 9th grade. Variety and access to different kinds is the key to successful readers
