Happy birthday to former Ardmore, University of Oklahoma and Buffalo Rangers running back Elmer "Peanuts" Slough, born on this day in 1903 in Madill. Slough earned All-State honors in 1921 after helping quarterback Ardmore to a 9-1 record and an appearance in a the mythical state championship game. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, where he was the Sooners' quarterback for two seasons, piloting the Sooners to a 4-3-1 mark as a senior. In 1926, Slough was signed to a professional contract by the Buffalo Rangers, which was an exhibition team made up of players from the southwestern United States. He played eight games, including starting seven games as a back and receiver. He caught two touchdown passes for the Rangers, who went 4-4-2 in their only season before the team folded. After his pro career, Slough returned home and later moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he began a legal practice. Slough passed away in 1935 at the age of 31. Following his passing, the Amarillo Bar Association passed a resolution to close all courts on the afternoon of his memorial service. In 1975, Slough was named to the All-1920s prep football team. Happy birthday Elmer! #tdfn #okpreps @ardmorefootball @OU_Football
