Mass mortality currently unfolding in the northern Great Barrier Reef. This isn’t an isolated site: an entire 8km long fore-reef flank that three months ago was >80% coral cover. After 6 DHW >90% of these colonies are either bleached or dead.

I am very happy to report that the years of work we put into studying the ecology and evolution of a single cryptic human gut plasmid is now nicely summarized in a paper that just appeared in @CellCellPress:

Northern and southern populations of 𝘔𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘴 seem to have distinct genomic signatures. Why? The Gulf Stream may act as a barrier near the outer banks, limiting population mixing. Is there a name-change coming for this little #ctenophore?

Chemists and biologists, do you have any idea where I can get 2'-5' oligoadenylate (sometimes called in short 2-5A)?
It is made by enzymes of the OAS family from ATP, but I couldn't find it anywhere commercially, and a researcher who used to make this compound recently retired.
