It is not hard to see the militias supporting Trump mutating into death squads if he wins, protected by sympathetic police, a tame judiciary and presidential pardons. If so, they would be used to instil terror into his opponents. Every outrage will blunt the edge of the next one, until you are so inured to outrage that you have no remaining capacity to respond.

Reminder that Canada's TRC calls to repeal Section 43 of the criminal code.
Tucker Carlson, campaigning for Trump: “There has to be a point at which dad comes home…Dad comes home, and he's pissed…You know what he says? ‘You've been a bad little girl, and you're getting a vigorous spanking right now.’”

This is the future promised by conservative governments. No family doctors for healthy people (Quebec) no home care for people who need services less frequently than daily in Ontario. Watch out #bcpoli, #saskpoli

Remembering having seen Maggie Smith live on stage in 1969 is Boomers' new Woodstock.
When I first saw her on the stage in 1969 I was captivated, a feeling that has never left me. Maggie Smith is simply the very best.

Time to think outside the box and contemplate free transit. We already provide free transit for some people, in certain places, at various times. Some cities have taken the next step and made transit free, system-wide or in the downtown core. policynote.ca/free-transit/

This is so sad. Child poverty rose again in 2023 according to the US Census "supplemental poverty rate" (blue line). **We saw record low child poverty in 2021 when we had the expanded Child Tax Credit that really helped the lowest income families** We know how to greatly reduce child poverty. Yet Congress (esp. Republicans) allowed the expanded CTC to expire.

For people with <$100K annual income, capital gains make up on avg <1% of total income, and are taxed at a low rate. For people >$250K annual income, cap gains make up 18% of total inc., and are taxed at a higher rate. Guess who cares about maintaining cap gains tax loopholes? /2
