Housing is outrageously expensive in NYC. Eating out is also rough.
However, many other things are not. If you use bus, bike, train or walk it's cheap. But not if you taxi/Uber everywhere or own a car.
Going to ridiculous restaurants/trendy bars is unsustainable but I can get best ever Mac & cheese at @eatSMAC for $8 or eat at home.
NYC has pricey sports, concerts, shows, etc but every day I can find free stuff to do, sometimes fantastic experiences or #bikenyc to a new park/place.
I don't know any particulars of your situation of course or habits, but I know plenty of peeps paying horrible rents that offset in other ways for joy of living here!

Their dad's a bit under the weather so we did delivery instead. And it was a hit!
Who else eats Mac & Cheese with chopsticks? I truly genuinely think it's the most efficient way to eat the stuff.

The best you'll ever have Buffalo Mac pairs perfectly with the #NFLPlayoffs, inspired by @eatSMAC.
(Pay no attention to the mess - I make a big one when I cook.)
