🚨 Supreme Court suggests: Unpaid traffic challans could be added to electricity bills!
• If people don’t pay traffic fines, authorities should explore adding the dues to their electricity bills.
• The logic: Pay the electricity bill, or face disconnection — making recovery harder to avoid.
• SC says merely issuing lakhs of e-challans is not enough; the focus must be on actual recovery.
• States/UTs have around ₹45,000 crore in e-challans to recover, with ₹25,000 crore recovered so far.
• Other measures suggested include blocking vehicle transfers, registration renewals, fitness/PUC certificates and suspending driving licences until dues are cleared.
• Authorities may also conduct random checks and impound vehicles with unpaid challans.
