Coal prices up 40% this year on LNG replacement demand, supply uncertainty asia.nikkei.com/business/ene… via @NikkeiAsia "Exports from Indonesia, one of the world's top coal producers, have stagnated as the government has toughened approval criteria for mining plans and tightened domestic supply obligations. Commodity Insights projects the country's 2026 export volume coming to 450 million tons, down roughly 10% on the year, or less, based on weak export levels last month."

Coal providing 50%+ of the whole NEM for decades and the guy running them all says they don't even stack up. Another $2B of new coal would smoke the entire renewables business undermining $100B's of investment. Wild Ideology here... Aussie's are allergic to logic in energy. Coal is roughly 80% cheaper than LNG, encouraging Asian and European buyers to increase coal imports ahead of winter. @SlavEnergy explains why price-conscious gas buyers are betting on energy security in her article this evening on Oilprice.com

India is relying heavily on coal-fired power stations as a poor monsoon keeps hydropower lower-than-seasonal. The result? Coal stockpiles are falling quickly, reaching a 5-year low (measured by number of days). New Delhi is invoking emergency rules to keep more coal-fired plants running to meet strong electricity demand.

Continuing the St Barbara $SBM.AX thought process, let's analyze risk bucket #2, the big one, capital allocation risk... Stonks are all about narrative; the key is often (imo) detecting a changing narrative about a stock...here I think this is happening in rt ala $WHC.AX from 2023...
Let's tackle 1) now, tax leakage risk (on the full sale of Simberi to Lingbao). Note - I assume this deal closes, that is, I see v little actual deal risk given 1) Lingbao already owns 40%; and 2) PNG was farmed in at 20% in the last deal; and 3) this is long-term strategic for China...

BREAKING: Saudi Aramco has cancelled all of its September European crude oil allocations and is scrapping every cargo slated for late-September loading onward, with a European lifter saying no Saudi oil cargoes at all until November, per initial reports citing oil trading firm Onyx and market sources. That takes the world's largest exporter out of the European market for the rest of September and all of October, a de facto force majeure on Saudi crude to Europe from the 3rd largest energy producer in the world.

They always want to privatize gains and socialize losses. Each round of financing by OpenAi and Antropic requires even bigger amount as they are running a business with negative margins that’s burning cash. Now with Chinese open models in the picture margins will be erased over time (we covered this many times) and they want open source models banned. The issue at stake here is that we have trillions of capex that created ecosystem predicated on the ability of OpenAI and Antropic to continue spending money and actually having capital to buy hundreds of billions of compute from Oracle and co. Hence the panic race to go public. Sudden Ai doomerism is just psyops to push real agenda - I’ll post my thoughts on it later.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei: "My view here is it has always been very strange that this technology is being built by a private company ... I think the government and the public needs to have a stake. And that's why we've supported regulation."

Compulsory reading for every Australian 👇Brilliant article Chris UhImann. So sad and true. We all need to act now. Call it Argentinisation unfortunately our economic decline is entirely self-inflicted. Like Argentina last century, we are squandering the prosperity built on resources, enterprise and ingenuity. The new CGT is economic vandalism. It punishes savers, founders and all investors who actually own this country. It must be reversed. #StoptheCGT #JoinWARonCGT theaustralian.com.au/inquire…

BREAKING: The gap between the US 10Y Treasury Yield and China's 10Y Government Bond yield rises to a record 324 basis points. In other words, the US government's cost of borrowing relative to China's has never been higher. Absolutely incredible.
Talk about a turn of events. Oil prices are back above $100, PPI inflation is up to +5.4%, and President Trump is preparing potential $5,000 "dividends." Now, US long-term borrowing costs are up to their highest since June 2007. What comes next? Let us explain. (a thread)
