The big health debate unfolding is Ray Peat versus Bryan Johnson. Increase energy/metabolism versus slow it down.

It would be fascinating to hear a local Chinese person describe their Chinese robber to the police. What details are they giving that the lack of pattern recognition in my brain is totally blind to.
Just got robbed in China and the police asked me to describe what he looks like

Another data point for going as natural as feasible. How many people are scrubbing their entire bodies with scented soap then applying perfumes and interfering with this process. I was shocked the other day at a public swimming bath by the sea, it was morning and full of people swimming, and this is Cyprus cleanest waters in the Mediterranean. I saw person after person get out and go to the showers with their own body wash and cover their entire bodies. What the fuck do you think you’re cleaning off? And the irony is these conventional washes are full of awful ingredients and scents. A bizarro world where people come out of the sea all clean and then soil themselves with chemical products.
A baby can apparently feel dad’s presence without seeing him or hearing his voice. In a new Science Advances study, babies interacted with a completely unfamiliar man while either their father’s body odor or a clean shirt was placed nearby. When dad’s scent was there, the baby’s brain became more synchronized with the stranger’s brain, and the babies showed more positive excitement and engagement. The researchers describe it almost like the baby was able to “invoke” the father’s presence even though he wasn’t actually in the room. AND the more involved the father was in childcare, the stronger the boost in brain synchrony associated with his scent.

There are studies showing men find women more attractive if they’re injured or incapacitated in some way. A lot of women fantasize about rape and the idea of being incapacitated, tied up, etc. Two sides of the same coin, life is complicated.
I drank too much at a party sophomore year, ended up passed out on a couch. In my intermittent conscious moments, one guy kept appearing. A popular senior I’d never actually talked to. He spent the night telling every guy there that I was his little sister.

A lot of stories on Fesshole are so obviously made up. Then you see one like this that is just so obvious it really happened. Maybe the true AI Turing test will be when it can tell the difference.
Slept in a collagen mask that you can peel off, I woke, peeled it off, it came off in four pieces and I just placed it on my bedside table and forgot. The Estate Agent came and took photos as selling house. Later that morning pics on website. Looks like 4 used condoms. Mortified

Life happens outdoors. I think a simple metric for health will become how many hours did you spend outside (including in shade) each day.
Sitting in the shade counts as good sunshine exposure. People always seem surprised when I tell them this. The UVB rays that help your body generate vitamin D will scatter, and still reach your body in the shade.

Being more indoors, switching to LED lights, making glass more energy efficient. All of these things have cost us metabolically. This new pre-print from Glen Jeffery, Bob Fosbury, Scott Zimmerman, and myself proposes a new hypothesis on why the lack of sunlight in our lives has led to metabolic problems. It is observationally backed up with rigorous studies which are already published. Here, however, a grand unifying theory involving multiple silos (astrophysics, quantum chemistry, geosciences, lifesciences, and human biology) converge together to make this hypothesis possible: Broad-range long-wavelength light (found in sunlight) is necessary to properly process electron transport in the mitochondria and the lack leads to metabolic disorders. If the hypothesis is correct, it has vast consequences on the direction we are going. The bottom line: get outside for the benefit of your health. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Some of the lowest resting heart rates I've seen have been in anorexic athletes. When your body runs low on energy, it slows everything down. In terms of your long-term health, this is generally not a good thing!

Might sound lame but I’d love a wearable that tells me this. Modernity is trying to force you inside at every moment; would be great to have a counter to this. Like I no longer wear a step tracker but in the past when I first did it was what woke me up to how little I was walking

If you’re still wondering why this crazy Ray Peat guy continues to grow in influence it’s stuff like this. He is repeatedly vindicated every month or two with evidence for ideas he had written about decades ago.

Right away some neurotic segment of the population should just never use sleep trackers. However for those of us who are somewhat sane, the best use is barbelling it. Use it for a 2-4 weeks, 2-4x times a year to keep yourself honest, and work on anything that needs improving.
Just telling people they slept poorly led to impaired cognitive function. Telling them they slept fine preserved it.

These kind of anecdotes freak me out because we know that GLP1s don't just affect appetite, they also modify behavior/motivation/addiction, and likely many other things. We have zero long term data on potential permanent behavioral changes.
It’s crazy how full I feel after eating and I’m not even on retatrutide anymore Something in my body has definitely changed, permanently I’m getting full at my maintenance intake, and not gaining fat at all. Actually I’m getting leaner as I build muscle Wild.

Look at their posture! The woman’s is perfect, and the man you just don’t see anyone standing naturally like that anymore.
A female sunbather pointing to a sign to explain to a lifeguard why she was going topless at the Spring Lake Beach in 1939. As it turned out the sign was for men only.

Your Gerolsteiner is *probably* contaminated
Ran a test on myself and my husband since we have the same controls to test the whole glass water bottles also have microplastics: I love sparkling mineral water, it’s an indulgence of mine. So before our Total Toxic burden test, I drank ~ 4 of them the day before, my husband who lives in same house and eats the same and has same exposures, drank our RO filtered water in our glass cups. Result: My BPA high, his low. I tried this because on my last TTB test my BPA was high for the first time on the results, and it had coincided with me drinking more mineral water from glass bottles. My conclusion: the best option to keep BPA low is high quality filtered water (RO and remineralize) second best if you can only choose between glass and plastic, I’m still choosing glass. BTW BPA half life is very short, so it’s not stored BPA or anything, the test was a show of recent exposure.

The case for Functional Patterns continues to mount. In a world of everyone taking shortcuts, it can be tough taking the long hard route, but there is no quick fix to a functional pain-free symmetric body.
Wrote about this not that long ago. Turns out contractions of the abdomen flush waste from the brain, which is one of the reasons why working out—even walking—improves your quality of thought and moods. You’re literally cleaning your brain.

Hey @ChrisMasterjohn thanks for detailing your current setup; love to see examples nutrient maxed diets. The one thing I expected to see but didn't was a collagen/gelatin source; did you just forget to mention it or you aren't currently eating/supplementing?
