I quietly built a widget builder for Function Studio over a few months. Shipped it in October.
Two weeks ago a merchant used it to customize their gift-with-purchase campaign right before launch. We tuned it together. It held up.
I used to think you couldn’t get rid of every InstructionCountLimitExceeded error on big carts in Shopify Functions.
Turns out that was just a limiting belief 😅
Huge thanks to @dave_cameron and the team. They keep making it easier for developers to do their best work.
MCP is live: can build, test, and publish discounts and other Shopify Functions as Flows.
The cool thing is that defining discounts as a flow sometimes gives you flexibility other apps lack. It’s actually very close to writing code, but Flows are much easier to tweak and maintain, and you get pre-built, optimized, battle-tested blocks that you or your agent can manage.
Once flow is built - it's using built-in tester tool to verify that discount actually works (using the same Rust binary that's executed by Shopify)
Vibe code a Shopify discount or promotion (storefront and checkout blocks are available). Test it right away. Then tweak it in a visual flow editor.
Dumb question for Shopify devs: how do you stop bots from triggering InstructionCountLimitExceededError?
I think the hard part of making Flow-like editor for Shopify Functions is not the "engine". Turning flows into logic.
It’s not. That part is rather easy.
Making something simple enough that a merchant can open it and build what they actually need. That's what's hard.
Migrated FS to Polaris 2.0
Probably need to rethink a few components, but I like how it looks so far
1000 shops use Function Studio. Thank you for the trust!
Now I get to earn the next 1000.
Ok, back to work.

there's a bug affecting apps using storefront api tokens due to which you'll see an api deprecation notice in dev dashboard. and starting today, you're also likely seeing "This app is unsupported" when merchants install.
turns out it's a bug on Shopify's end and the earliest it will "auto-resolve" is Oct 16.
which is wild? for a period of time when merchants are actively searching for apps. 2 weeks where they'll continue to see a banner.
partner/dev support was extremely unhelpful. i spoke to 2 people who each gave me ai copy-pasta answers and then refused to do anything else.
i feel like this is a much bigger issue than the way it's being talked about. it needs some attention asap cc @ShopifyDevs @eytanseidman @Shopify
Working on some fun stuff again!
Migrating to Polaris 2.0 and wrapping up the storefront / checkout widget builder soon.
This works very well! Thank you for adding support for discount apps @ShopifyDevs 🥳
Getting lots of clearly AI-generated emails with requirements lately. I.e. we install your app if it can do 20 very specific things. Including emails from “digital teammates”
are you just pasting these into your AI and sending back whatever it says?
Shipped volume discounts fully driven by metafields.
You put quantities and prices in product + variant metafields.
Function Studio wires the discount, feeds the Shopify Function, and the storefront widget reads the same data.
No extra config and merchant owns the data.
More metafield / metaobject features coming.
One review didn't survive the weekend, unfortunately.
Shopify decided that one of those 20 hard earned reviews was unworthy of the App Store.
So, back to 19.
hit 20 reviews on Function Studio yesterday.
reviews slowed down after I turned off Crisp for the cheapest plan some time ago.. but I'm not sure I want to turn it back on 😅
So last week I started adding analytics to Function Studio.
Already tracking:
- every GWP event and discount that fires
- every info banner shown in checkout
- all of it layered over AOV and conversion rate
