In the Charleston County School District, pushing for universal testing of all fourth-grade students resulted in three times as many students identified as gifted, rising from 40 to 150 across the district. bit.ly/4mMP33H

Novices seek praise. Recognizing strengths builds confidence to keep going. Experts crave criticism. Seeing shortcomings reveals avenues to keep growing. Preferring corrections to compliments is a sign of skill. The better you get, the more determined you become to get better.

Talent doesn't always express itself immediately. For some people their talent is being a high responder to training. They need to spend the time doing the work before they can fully express their gifts. We tend to overvalue those who show great initial promise.

Working with SC educators is always a great experience! The "find the special child" model is often used but ultimately creates more problems than it solves. Better to be inclusive and provide a range of advanced services for a bigger group of talented students.
All educators need to ask themselves this question 👇 Thank you @JonathanPlucker
