“NYC has high property taxes” is the sort of thing it makes sense to believe if you don’t live here, but alas, it’s not true
How does Ken Griffin owning a $238 million condo in NYC he only visits occasionally harm New Yorkers exactly?
He pays an extraordinary high property tax to the city for services he barely uses.
Why ridicule him for this?

The more I use AI tools, the more I have to admit that I'm not that much more productive... I simply FEEL that much more productive.
In reality, the context switching of kicking several things off wipes out my perceived productivity gains. At least in many/most cases!

I really think the left has lost the way on tech policy
NEW: Sen. Bernie Sanders will introduce a bill Wednesday that aims to put a national moratorium on data center construction “until legislation is enacted that safeguards the public from the dangers of" AI.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will introduce a similar bill in the House in the coming weeks. motherjones.com/politics/202…

Cannot wait for teams that build their custom JIRA/Workday replacement/custom CRM to one day turn around and ask:
“Why do we have so much internal software that is buggy / has poor UX + we need to maitain?”
Seen this movie well before AI, when Uber built uChat (custom Slack)
Our cracked team just used Software Factory to rebuild and replace Jira in a little more than a month.
We first spent 3.5 weeks planning. This is Software Factory’s superpower.
It allowed our lead PM, Designer and Architect to thoughtfully describe and detail exactly what they wanted. Software Factory then did the heavy lifting in filling in the blanks and allowing our senior tech folks to sharpen the direction of what they wanted.
Then in 2.5 weeks 2.5 junior devs built a replacement.
This will launch as an updated Planner module inside of Software Factory on Tuesday.
It’s beautiful, clean and super useful.

So much of the food that make up various Asian cuisines tailored techniques and flavor combinations to account for shelf stability, and "using what's available"
It's just someone who shows absolutely no curiosity to understand, and remarkable hostility to doing so.
An alternate take on this whole thing:
Asian cuisines are actually one of the most approchable ones for people with poor executive dysfunction!
Soy sauce, mirin, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, chili crisp, etc are shelf stable and basically never go bad.
Staples like dried noodles, rice, can live in your pantry forever too, and frozen veg and protein that you'd add anyway makes things really easy
Meanwhile pretty sure even my dried herbs amount to vaguely plant-like flavors when i use them now...
The most fascinating thing about decant the olives onto sesame noodles or whatever food discourse is that you apparently can have zero energy when it comes to food prep, but also have the energy to post 1000 tweets at the same time

Every time cooking at home discourse occurs, I learn how many of you think it's a complicated process, and treat spices and non-American condiments as exotic purchases you assume possess no meal versatility. And no, you don't need high executive function to prep Asian food

this maddening bit of discourse makes a lot more sense in a context where, to a lot of the people doing it, "sesame oil, chili oil, sesame seeds, rice vinegar" are strange and exotic, but salt/pepper/butter/olive oil is basic normal and just sort of appears in your fridge
People are dunking on this but he’s right. “Sesame noodles” isn’t the kind of meal you eat everyday for a week or meal prep. At most you’re eating this once a week. And with this approach to grocery shopping, you have to multiply this shopping load by seven to cover a week.
The key is finding recipes with mix and match ingredients that aren’t so specific to a meal. If something requires chili peppers or fish sauce or cilantro— I’m not making it. At least not unless it’s an event.
If you care about helping people eat well from home, you should advise them about how to prep one ingredient proteins and veggies that taste good with salt/pepper/butter/olive oil.
this has been bouncing around my head all week
among other things, inclusive of GenAI discourse and what feels like the ultimately lightweight artifacts that are touted as heavyweight achievements
workingtheorys.com/p/make-so…
The software industry has spent so much effort over the years trying to steer away from commits and PRs as sole metrics of productivity (see DORA, SPACE, etc) that I honestly found it disheartening how quickly some GenAI users turned to those very metrics as productivity evidence
my hero journey is literally buying a house while listening to @ramit talk about home ownership, and then deciding 2 years later actually he was right, i don't want to own a home, and anyway i'm excited to rent again
people say AI companies are subsidizing costs and we should be worried, and yeah, i'm not worried, cause look uber did the same thing and now we've normalized paying $50 for a single delivered entree after fees and taxes and ti–

Democrats should demand language prohibiting action on Greenland (either military action or a purchase) without Congressional approval, and shut the government down if they don't get it. It's a 90/10 issue and Trump isn't acting like it's a joke any more.
sort of a related thing that's been annoying me so much: product feature slop due to the ease in spitting things out and "just testing it"
i expect some base level of taste and curation from products
don't just throw things at me to see if it'll stick

i'm skeptical of a lot of the AI hype, but when it works, it feels like magic
recently, i was kinda lost in the tokyo train station, so i uploaded a wide angle iphone photo of where i stood and also my train ticket, and asked chatgpt which way should i go. it nailed it!
