This discussion of how much the Art Director got paid for her work on zillion-dollar grossing OBSESSION has been interesting. It highlights when and where value lies in the filmmaking process.
While researching THE END OF THE INTERNET, I got obsessed with how decentralized tools were being used to "capture value". I even tried building a system that applied those learnings to filmmaking.
I EVEN WROTE A WHITEPAPER ABOUT IT.
It was a loopy project and would never work. But is interesting to play with these concepts and tools.

Coming out of twitter retirement to announce the theatrical run of my feature-length doc THE END OF THE INTERNET! A film about the internet and its discontents.
First Canadian dates: Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Waterloo. Tix + info here:

The film is touring with an immersive screening experience. For 30 minutes before the film, audience members can access a secret server inside the cinema—a private, isolated network not connected to the internet. Here you will find research material, rough notes, deleted scenes, raw footage, chat rooms and hidden easter eggs that do not exist anywhere else. At the end of the evening, this network will disappear.
It is unclear why, but for some reason my 24 hour film is suddenly averaging 10 views a day. How much devastation have I done to productivity in these troubled economic times? vimeo.com/319143657
I hope it lands on me.
A 10-story, 23-ton piece of a Chinese rocket will crash into Earth sometime over the weekend — but no one knows where. nyti.ms/3h7jEct
Friends - my episode of "This is Pop!" airs this Saturday 24 April (10pm on CTV). It's about music festivals (remember, uh, gathering?!?)! Featuring Michelle Phillips (Mamas + Papas), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Kele Okereke (Bloc Party), and some sweet footage of Steve Wozniak!

Online, so much is dependent on an algorithmic matrix of mined data that the user’s identity is distilled so accurately that you can’t breech the identity that’s fed back to you via the screen. So no chance encounters, just a recurrent overlap of what you already are
