While the left serves up the story of French schoolchildren rising against austerity, the right mostly spins it the identitarian way: race and Islam. Both stories are false. Only the right's has a kernel of truth. The austerity story first. France runs one of the largest deficits in the eurozone, and the education budget is rising, by 1.2 billion to 64 billion euros. Now the kernel. Two of the groups in the streets were young men of low intelligence and little impulse control, never pacified, and racailles who compensate for their lack of status with an aversion to the host population, rationalised as religion. These two groups looted. But the town hall of Limoges was set on fire by the third group, exactly as I described it on Monday. On Tuesday investigators arrested a suspect: an ultra-left activist already on the terror watchlist. The anti-terror unit has the case, and the justice ministry speaks of a concerted action by 500 to 700 people. There are outside forces working to destabilise France, but in this case it is not the Muslim Brotherhood. And the antifa is not coordinated with the Islamists. The antifa tolerates and instigates the violence of mostly opportunist Muslim young men, out of naivety or by its old motto: smash what smashes you. There is a clear link between Islam and the racailles. There is also a link between Christianity and the antifa, by way of Marxism, a Christian heresy. Neither link explains, as a cause, the current attempts to destabilise France. To the identitarians in Vienna and Paris: yes, the French and the Austrians share more culture on average than Congolese share with Syrians. But the clearest identity overlap between the French and modern Austrians, besides the same T-shirts made in Asia and an «identity» LARPed for American social media, is statism, rooted to the bone. And statism cannot be remigrated. Neither can Lola-Fleur from Sciences Po, who excused the looting on French television: «We have nothing to lose.»

People demanding the government “lower the costs of living” via taxation simply don’t understand how anything works. They don’t understand business, or how the government is funded, or that the government is not the same as corporations. They don’t get markets, or labor costs, or anything. They just don’t get how anything works. It’s all unresolved shapes acting as one hostile unpredictable entity that’s making their life shitty. So they burn down buildings that their tax dollars pay for.

Old crew used to play a game we called “shot down” and it’s the same concept, but the goal was to get rejected in the most humiliating way possible. Drinks in faces, getting assaulted, asked to leave, etc.; we had nerves of steel after a while.

The battle of narratives is going strong. Our countries are a recurring target. It is time to act to tell the stories that make us strong. Let’s live our own story! Protect what matters - our democracy.

The EU’s anti-money laundering authority wants digital ID to become the standard way people prove their identity to banks. Remote alternatives such as video and selfie checks will still be allowed, but only as an exception that the bank will have to justify to its supervisor.

University of Chicago Students to Protest at Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Demand End to Federal Ban on Onion Futures Student-led group For Our Futures will rally Monday morning to call for repeal of the 1958 Onion Futures Act On Monday, October 19, at 8:30 a.m., members of For Our Futures, a student-led organization from @UChicago, will gather outside the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (@CMEGroup) headquarters to demand the repeal of the Onion Futures Act of 1958, a nearly 70-year-old federal law prohibiting futures trading in onions. The Onion Futures Act, enacted following allegations of market manipulation in the 1950s, singled out onions for a prohibition on futures contracts that remains in effect today. For Our Futures is calling on Congress to repeal the ban and restore the ability of onion growers, buyers, and traders to participate in a regulated futures market. Onions remain the only commodity banned from futures trading in the United States. The protest will feature a giant inflatable onion costume, protest signs, and dozens of students, and will take place outside the headquarters of CME Group, one of the world's largest derivatives marketplaces and the historic center of American onion futures trading. Listen to the street: it wants more from the state. One of the highest deficits in the euro area, and a crowd that wants it larger. A salvation religion whose god is bankrupt does not lose believers; it raises its voice and, unfortunately, its lighters.

you say this as if it’s a new thing— but bitcoin traditionally is a consumer of last resort for power. it’s rarely paid top dollar for watts, and is generally great as a way to extract some value out of otherwise wasted (or single purpose) energy
