Still think Europe has no serious humanoid robots?
@Wandercraft is building Calvin-40 in Paris alongside its medical exoskeletons.
Wandercraft has opened a new robotics site in Paris where it is developing medical exoskeletons and industrial humanoids.
Its lineup includes:
• Atalante X a self-balancing rehabilitation exoskeleton with 12 motors and articulated ankles
• Eve a personal exoskeleton with 12 motors, multidirectional walking and around 4 hours of battery life
• Calvin-40 an industrial humanoid using 3D sensing vision autonomous navigation and whole-body control for material handling
Calvin-40 is already working on Renault’s production line in Douai, and Wandercraft says a fleet of 350 robots is committed by 2027.
Years of work on balance and walking for exoskeletons are now feeding directly into humanoid robotics in France.
These ceiling robots are moving medical supplies through a hospital in China while keeping the corridors free for beds, patients and staff.
This is Warrenwell’s Telesys rail logistics system. The transport cars run on tracks mounted above the hallway and carry IV bags medicines blood products lab samples sterile supplies and small surgical packs between departments.
At the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University the installation has around:
• 1,800 meters of track
• 41 stations
• 65 transport cars
• Around 200 km traveled per day
• Roughly 2,700 IV bags and 3,200 medicine boxes moved daily
The system identifies the destination station and uses track switches to route each carrier through the hospital.
I like the decision to put this traffic above people's heads. Hospital floors are already full of beds carts and staff. The ceiling becomes its own logistics route.

NEW
The FCC has now added two new categories of devices to our Covered List, which bans new versions from import or sale in America.
1. Advanced robotic devices, such as humanoids and quadrupeds produced in foreign countries.
2. Power inverters produced in foreign countries.
This action follows determinations by Executive Branch nat sec agencies that the devices pose unacceptable risks to our national security.
It includes exemptions for devices that, based on a DOW or DHS finding, pose no unacceptable threat.

A sad story:
K-Scale Labs has announced the cancellation of all K-Bot pre-orders and the refund of customer deposits due to a rapidly depleting cash flow and inability to secure funding.
They has laid off most of its team.
This robotics company, favored by OpenAI, might consider selling K-Scale Labs to them. OpenAI relaunched its robotics project last year, but more than a year later, a prototype is still nowhere to be seen. K-Scale Labs could potentially accelerate this process.
K-Scale Labs has an inspiring vision: to make cost-effective humanoid robots accessible for developers and businesses across various fields, ultimately driving a scalable data flywheel.
However, the reality is harsh. Before K-Scale Labs, Chinese robotics companies like Unitree, Booster, and EngineAI had already entered the global market, creating fierce competition.
Last year, they launched even more affordable products that have become popular among research institutions, universities, and labs, and even in the commercial performance and rental markets. Backed by China’s comprehensive robotics supply chain, these companies have been able to rapidly expand and iterate on their products (such as Unitree R1 and Booster K1), turning product releases into full production-delivery cycles rather than just order data.
Of course, we can’t overlook the role of patient capital. Early-stage robotics development requires massive venture investment to move from POC to PMF and then scale quickly. China’s top-down industrial push and diversified capital ecosystem have allowed these companies to raise multiple rounds of funding(for example, Booster, founded in 2023, has already completed six rounds of financing.)
But not every company will make it through the “valley of death.” Funding chains can break at any time, and we’ll likely see many stories as tragic as that of K-Scale Labs.
Ultimately, the ability to sustain oneself: to achieve self-sufficiency is what truly matters.
A few days ago, I shared this humanoid robot company @kscalelabs that was admitted by OpenAI and officially launched their humanoid robot: K-Bot - Founder Edition.
This open source humanoid robot is 1.40 meters tall and weighs 35 kilograms. Its head is an interactive screen that supports AI dialogue, etc.
It is designed for developers to create advanced machine learning applications. It is equipped with modular accessories and powerful actuators, and can move and manipulate like humans. The price is only $8,999, which will reduce the R&D costs of a large number of developers, and focus on customizing and developing humanoid robots for personalized applications.

A breathtaking robotics moment
This woman just stood up and walked again, with a robotic exoskeleton from French company Wandercraft.
For tens of millions who can’t walk, it’s a life-changing breakthrough.
Robots and humans become one, allowing humans to regain their freedom of movement. The exoskeleton learns from over 10,000 users’ movements every day:evolving, improving, becoming smarter.
Now, that same tech has evolved into Calvin-40, a headless humanoid robot working in Renault’s factory, handling tires and parts boxes, etc.
