I wrote about this year's Econ Nobel. It was a long overdue recognition of the success of New Keynesian macroeconomics.

Hari ini anniversary pakcik kahwin dulu2.
Seminggu ni, pakcik sibuk buat assignment last minute, jadi langsung tak sebut pasal anniversary ke apa.
Pagi tadi, pakcik tak sebut pasal anniversary dgn isteri, kami sembang pasal tak aci si Chopper dok berlakon demam dia tak duduk kat cat house, macam kucing2 lain.
Sebenarnya pakcik tak lupa.
Kalau geli geleman pasal anniversary org tua, boleh skip.
Kalau tak geli, saja nak cakap pakcik dulu propose nak kahwin pkai email lepas tu pakcik lupa nak follow up.
———
Email 1:
Pakcik cerita sikit kenapa pakcik tak kahwin2 & relationship sebelum itu tak berakhir dgn perkahwinan.
Basically pakcik masih mencari2 calon yg sudi kahwin dgn my world, bukan kahwin dgn pakcik.
My world = lebih sayang ibu bapa pakcik dr sayang pakcik, paham yg hidup pakcik ni unconventional
Email 2:
Isteri pakcik sambut baik.
Email 3:
Ha3 email yg kat atas tu.
Lepas isteri pakcik dah setuju dalam Email 2, pakcik sat on that email 3 bulan.
Tiga bulan lepas email 1 (April), pakcik macam kata jom kita kahwin melalui email (July).
Email 5:
Lepas tu pakcik dok sibuk kejar scandal NFC lak kah3.
Padahal dah nak kahwin, so isteri kena hantar email 5 sebab belum buat apa2 persedian.
Isteri tetapkan tarikh 8 Oktober, bagi checklist apa yg perlu berlaku.
Email 4 ni dihantar 20 Ogos, so ada 5 minggu je nak prepare nak kahwin.
Kami akad nikah di masjid KLCC, memang tak jemput sesiapa kecuali ibu bapa & adik beradik masing2.
Ada confusion bila nak bawak hantaran - so pakcik terlupa bawak dulang hantaran ha3
———
Alhamdulillah 15 tahun kemudian, kami dah lalui semuanya bersama.
Sebelum anak pakcik kena serang & isteri kena ugut, pakcik memang particular pasal privacy kami sekeluarga.
Kalau boleh, mereka berhak dilindungi dari the public life that I have to endure.
But she is a mother and she has the right to express her feelings apa yg dah berlaku, jadi isteri pakcik nampak sama naik dgn pakcik di Threads ni kah3.
Macam mula2 kahwin dulu, isteri pakcik yg manage the household, plan everything, keep everything together.
Bukan saja untuk pakcik & anak; untuk 19 ekor kucing jugak!
Ada macam2 jenis rumah tangga yg bahagia.
Ada yg romantis.
Ada jugak yg sgt proper.
Ada yg bermula dgn email, dan terus kekal sempoi sampai ke tua sbb we put all the cards on the table dari day 1 (melalui email kah3).
Happy anniversary dear, who would have thought we would end up with 19 cats!

First question on AI.
Is the problem superintelligence or distorted intelligence?
This is a question I tried to address in this piece. I can add the following additional comment here.
I believe the debate is being obfuscated by equating goal-driven, autonomous behavior with intelligence. Plants and insects have goal-driven, largely autonomous behaviour. But this isn’t what we mean by intelligence in general.
Intelligence is general-purpose and holistic, and is typically well-adapted to its environment.
There is no doubt that current AI models have impressive capabilities. But in attempting to achieve these capabilities, AI labs may be creating distorted intelligence rather than superintelligence, as I explain in this article.
This matters because the dangers we should watch out for, the kinds of policies and regulations we should adopt, and the hope we should hold depend on the answer to this question.
Recent security breaches suggest that AI capabilities are developing rapidly while being put in the service of imperfect quantitative metrics that ultimately distort the behavior of the most advanced models, @DAcemogluMIT writes. project-syndicate.org/commen…

Dear followers,
Over the next few days, starting today, I will post a number of threads on AI. My focus will be on uncomfortable questions for our current AI discourse. I am doing this because I feel that the public conversation on AI is not tackling the big issues and dangers, and what I view as important questions are not being asked by industry insiders and the media.
I must preface these posts by saying that I am not an AI scientist, so my understanding of some of the issues may be faulty. And I do not claim to know the answers to these questions. My aim is to make a small contribution by emphasizing the questions that I believe are important but are being neglected.
Thank you

A #Statatip: do not use backticks (`xx') for stored results for additional calculations.
E.g. r(mean) returns a different (true) value than `r(mean)' (substituted expression). Even though this difference is super small in our example, it can still compound over longer scripts.

🔥 Excited to share that #paper2agent is published in @Nature today!
Papers have long been the primary format for communicating scientific knowledge, but they remain static. Putting that knowledge to work requires connecting findings to data, navigating supplementary materials, and adapting methods to new questions - effort repeated by each new reader.
We introduce Paper2Agent, a multi-agent framework that automatically turns research papers into virtual authors. Paper2Agent turns a paper’s manuscript, code, data, and supplements into an MCP server that any AI agent can access, with automated testing and iterative refinement in an agentic loop. The paper then becomes a virtual author you can talk to: trace claims to evidence, analyze your own data, and collaborate with other papers’ virtual authors
Agentifying a paper turns it from something people read into something people and AI agents can discover and build on - providing the context needed to interpret its findings and reuse its methods reliably. We tested how reliably these agents put papers to use. Across multiple benchmarks, agents created by Paper2Agent outperformed baselines such as Claude Code working directly with papers' PDFs and code repositories.
Once papers become virtual authors, they can collaborate - much like human researchers do. In one case study, agents built from AlphaGenome and two large-scale genetic perturbation studies worked together to propose a new computational approach for integrating evidence across different perturbation datasets. By connecting predictions from one paper with experimental data from others, they helped pinpoint a likely causal gene for psoriasis.
We hope Paper2Agent makes scientific knowledge easier to access, reuse, and build on - a first step toward a future where millions of paper agents proactively collaborate with human researchers and one another to advance discovery.

Nature has just published a pretty incredible paper.
The authors introduce a framework that turns research papers into interactive AI agents.
Rather than engaging with a paper only as static text, researchers can question its agent, ask it to reproduce an analysis, or apply the paper’s methods to new data.
This could make research methods much easier to understand, reproduce, and use.
It also opens up a strange possibility: research papers that can, in a sense, talk to one another. The authors demonstrate this by connecting agents derived from different papers so that they can combine their methods and data.
Used carefully (and with human scientific judgment still firmly in the loop) this could become a powerful new form of scientific communication.

In the second paper published last year, we find that teacher pedagogical skills are likely an important driver of Vietnam success.
