Kids will die because of this. Last month, a young queer AB woman I interviewed said her trans partner took their life last year because of the hateful climate. The UCP’s use of this clause is unconscionable #abpoli
“Danielle Smith has directed officials to invoke the Charter’s notwithstanding clause in amending three laws that affect transgender people” Danielle Smith is going to revoke people’s Charter Rights. Thats where we are. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli lethbridgeherald.com/news/na…

Cornell decided to ban frat parties for a year instead of punishing rapists. Rapists don’t quit being rapists just because they’re forced to change venues.

We need to talk about how porn plays apart in the rape culture that went on at Cornell. The many men defending the rapists keep arguing that a 19 year old women would have consented to a 7 person, 7 hour gang bang. No one thinks that way about young women without porn.

“Imagine it was your daughter/sister/ friend,” is a call for men to imagine a violation of the women they see themselves to possess; that is, a violation of their property. It does not ask them to understand the horror of rape. The fact is that they rape their daughters too.
Men are being awful about this Cornell r*pe. We shouldn’t have to say imagine if it was your daughter or sister or friend.

When I was being cross-examined by my stalker's defence lawyer in court, he pulled out a dictionary, pointed to the word "harassment" and asked me to read its meaning aloud. I refused. He then picked one of the dozens of messages my stalker had sent me and asked what exactly was abusive about it. When I asked, "Isn't that abusive language?", the judge reprimanded me for asking questions back. The lawyer, I was told, was merely doing his job. At one point, the defence lawyer read aloud one of my stalker's disgusting messages. The judge remarked, "oh, our accused is a budding poet," and proceeded to laugh, along with the defence lawyer and a few others in the courtroom. Procedure is punishment. If a survivor even musters the courage to fight back, the system will make sure she regrets it, questions herself and second-guesses her decision to seek justice every step of the way. She is made to relive her trauma, defend her dignity, justify her fear and prove, over and over again, that what happened to her was wrong. The perpetrator gets a defence. The survivor gets put on trial. Men enable men. And patriarchy has ensured that men occupy most of the positions from which women's experiences are questioned, minimised and dismissed. We keep getting asked why women don't report sexual violence and harassment. Why we don't fight back. Why we withdraw complaints. Why we choose silence. They are in denial about what we are put through when we do.

In college, I dated a guy who seemed perfect. He had sisters, he was unbelievably sweet, he was gentle with me. A month before he and I met, I’d been sexually assaulted so violently it put me in the hospital. I had told no one in my life

The right wants to make casual, premarital, non-procreative sex as risky as possible--for women. But they also embrace the raunch. Sexual prohibition and sexual force are two styles of a single project: the use of sex to subordinate women. @MoiraDonegan theguardian.com/commentisfre…

An Austrian woman has died of injuries sustained while she was drugged, by her own husband, and pimped out to men who paid up to €500 to rape her while she was unconscious. Her husband would refer to her as "dead meat" in text messages. Her body was discovered, covered in blood, by her teenage daughter. In one text, the woman's husband wrote: "I'll get her properly drunk. Then you can have sex with her again. The way she was whining the other day was amazing." His neighbour, who was one of the men raping her, responded: "She almost screamed. You cover her mouth again." He also thanked the woman's husband for "allowing me to use her". It's not mentioned in this article but there is no doubt in my mind that the rape sessions were being filmed and sold as pornographic content.
'Gisele Pelicot 2.0' wife who was 'drugged by husband so other men could rape her' dies 'after sexual abuse caused fatal injuries' trib.al/h104r7p
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The woman in question was Daniela Aichinger, a 39-year-old from Austria who died in June. Prosecutors' nicknaming of the case as 'Pelicot 2.0' and the Daily Mail's repetition of this is callous and misogynistic, and precisely the culture Pelicot is fighting against. dailymail.com/news/article-1…

oilers superfan mama stanley says she will no longer support the oilers in the wake of them signing alex formenton. in an instagram post, she wrote: "With a VERY, VERY BROKEN HEART, I am making an announcement I never imagined I would have to make. I am deeply disappointed by the Edmonton Oilers' decision to sign Alex Formenton. Although he was acquitted in court, I cannot ignore my conscience or what this decision represents to me. As a sexual assault survivor, I must stand by my morals and stand with the woman at the centre of this case. For that reason, as long as Formenton remains an Oiler, I CANNOT AND WILL NOT support or cheer for this team. This isn't about the players who have been there—I will always love my boys. This is about the organization's decision to bring in this one player. I just cannot support that decision! I did not make this choice lightly or simply out of anger. I've cried in waves because I feel betrayed by an organization I have proudly loved and represented for years. Losing Game 7 two years ago meant losing a Stanley Cup; this feels like losing a team I have loved with my heart for most of my life. CLEAR: I am still Mama Stanley. Mama Stanley belongs to ME—not the Edmonton Oilers organization. She represents BELIEVE, kindness, children, survivors and community. I will not abandon her or EVER compromise her values." instagram.com/p/DdFeC3wjxVd/…

Having a baby young increases the chance you get stuck in low paying work and they know this. They also know it will make you more compliant as you must survive for your child & provide for them so you tolerate more bullshit. It is the easiest and cheapest way to enslave a woman
