This is the ONLY #BatonRouge bridge project #Louisiana should be spending $500m on, @LouisianaGov. That map shows current traffic. Upgrading 190 and sending I-12 over the old bridge all the way to I-49 would provide an all-interstate bypass & evac route.

Most of this route is already built to interstate standards and is new pavement and is already the official alternate for I-10.
The only way the entire state of #Louisiana should be on the hook for $500 million for a new bridge in BR, is if that new bridge serves the needs of the state as a whole & not just BR locals. @LouisianaGov why isn’t improving 190 bridge not being considered?

None of the proposed options on @La_DOTD’s list address the traffic woes in & around BR. They do not provide a means of bypassing traffic jams on I-10, and will not aid in hurricane evacuation.

I-12 was an original part of the first version of the Eisenhower Interstate System with its stated purpose being to provide a through-traffic bypass route keeping drivers traveling from TX-MS-TX out of SELA urban traffic. This would restore that purpose.
Upgrade old bridge to interstate standards, improve rail section to finally give BR access to AMTRAK, & continue I-12 along existing US-190 all the way to I-49 at Opelousas — doubling east-west interstate / evacuation capacity for #Louisiana
Only option that makes sense for the state, provides interstate traffic bypass opportunity, increases evacuation bandwidth, & eliminates the chronic bottlenecks of I-10 would be to upgrade Airline from I-12, make that I-12 rather than merging 12/10, continue across old bridge.
