Are you an assessment and certification body in Scotland? Do you have so little faith in teachers' judgements that you simply ignore their estimated grades anyway, and resort to clerical checks and remarks of exams, instead of having a fair system for students to appeal results?
Are you a teaching professional who delivers National 5 to Advanced Higher courses? Our new online course provides guidance and helpful resources to support you in determining learners’ estimates. Log in to the course: bit.ly/SQA_Academy

In case you missed it - @sqanews have released a survey about the new body, Qualifications Scotland, which it will become as part of reform of assessment in Scotland. smartsurvey.co.uk/s/YourVoic…

The survey has only two questions - How would you describe yourself? (Educator/Learner/Parent or carer) Qualifications Scotland will replace SQA later this year. What is the one thing you most want to see from the new organisation?

As far as I can see, there is no limit to the number of responses you can leave, and the link seems to work for all users. If you, your students, or their parents/carers have any feelings on the matter, it might be worth sharing with them too.

Finished for the Xmas break. Time for a rest and to savour my time with my nearest and dearest. I wish all my followers the same. Given the hellscape that Space Karen has turned this once great platform into, I don't see me coming back here in 2025. See you under blue skies!❤️ – at Stewarton, Scotland

It'd be great for @EdScot to put together a range of comprehensive, exemplification materials for all subject areas at all levels to avoid a repeat of the last decade of endless moderation of indeterminate standards. No doubt @sqanews will do whatever the hell they please... – at Glasgow, Scotland

🧵There’s a lot of interest in how generative AI can be made best use of in schools, particularly to save teachers’ time. But little evidence on how to use it well. To fill some of the gaps, we’ve published findings from the first major trial of ChatGPT in English schools. 1/13

Human rights are universal - if we start stripping away basic human rights from any section of society then none of us has rights – just privileges that can be taken away by people in power whenever they want. Would we really want to take that path?
Reform UK leader @Nigel_Farage says “We need to leave the ECHR so we can deport people that come illegally & take back control of our borders & that’s what the public wants” RT if you disagree with his populist boll**** the UK should join Russia & Belarus outside the ECHR

Food Banks are not part of the Welfare State. They are a tax break for corporations to get rid of stuff they don't want, and a way to fleece the poor to feed the poor. Nearly 90% of donations to Food Banks come from individuals who are not wealthy.

The Scottish 2024 budget offers no support for the thousands of teachers struggling to find work, let alone secure permanent contracts

If @theSNP were serious about #education these types of subject supports would exist across the country for all stages and subjects. The #lead #teacher roles promised in their last manifesto would have been an ideal means to achieve this. Another empty pledge.
Thoroughly enjoyed visiting colleagues at @CastleheadHS to offer support for #practical work in my role as a @IOPScotland #physics coach. It's great to work with individual schools, but imagine the impact of being able to support a whole LA with subject specific #clpl

Other bodies can and do offer good quality subject specific #clpl, but this often relies on teachers giving up their free time as its nigh on impossible to get out of schools during the school week. Paid for #cpd almost unheard of due to diminished budgets.

As ever the answer is more money to fund more people to do a better job. After a decade or more of diminishing budgets, staffing and resources, its clear that the constant drive for Improvement in Scottish Education cannot be achieved in any other way.
