Our chapter ‘Jung, Dada, and the Discussion and Painting of Dreams’ is now available open access at the link below. The Dada art movement was the precursor to surrealism & was called ‘folly and tasteless’ by Jung, but similarities between them are explored in this @routledgebooks chapter.

Following our presentation on Nietzsche & dreaming at the 43rd @DreamScholars IASD conference in Oregon, we went to France to the village of Èze-sur-Mer, on the coast between Nice & Monaco, from where Nietzsche used to climb to Èze Village, on the hilltop. Here he had the inspiration for one of the chapters of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. The strenuous Nietzsche Footpath is 2km long, with 400m height gain. He later wrote about the ‘painful climb’ in Ecce Homo.

We are re-reading Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams following invitation by @FreudMusLondon to provide an information label to accompany the first (1900) edition of the book, to be on display in a new exhibition to mark the Museum’s 40th anniversary. Found this lovely quote on p.153 of the Pelican edition.

Our poster on the abilities of ChatGPT for dream interpretation, to be presented next week at the 43rd annual conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams @dreamscholars in Oregon. It responds to sceptical claims that personal insight can be obtained by interpreting the dream of another person as if it was one’s own. ChatGPT is useful for testing this claim as the ‘discussion’ is not confounded by knowledge of the provenance of the dream.
Painting by @Prof_Lockheart of Friedrich Nietzsche’s dream at age 5 years of his deceased father rising from the grave to take N’s 2-year old brother to the grave. His brother died soon afterwards. Dream recorded in N’s autobiography, written at age 14.
