I'm coming to think there are three kinds of sports fans:
Those who love results (the feeling of winning, perhaps making $$ or points from gambling/fantasy)
Those who love seeing something exceptional happen.
And those who love the event itself.

Notably absent is @chaseelliott, who removed himself from the ballot. Expect the late Kyle Busch, who is posthumously on the ballot, to get a lot of votes.

Given the track temp decreasing as the race went on, I was surprised that Kyle Larson's Lap 2 time of 29.369s held out as the fastest lap of the race. Most drivers ran their fastest laps later in the race rather than on that first run.
Anyone who listened to the first two calls on the @SiriusXMNASCAR post-race show would have thought that the callers had seen two different races.
Chase Briscoe had some interesting things to say about controlling the race — i.e. taking the lead as soon as possible. He'll be treating the start and each re-start as if it's 10 to go.
And, he reminded us, he has less to lose than Kyle Larson. Keep a close eye on the first laps of the race.

#nascar - Sunday marks the shortest Charlotte oval race since a 312-miler in 2020. Drivers are split on how this will play out, or even when they will take the green flag.
Tyler Reddick, Joey Logano, Ryan Preece, Michael McDowell, and William Byron weigh in.
All 1.5-mile tracks are not the same, even the ones that look the same in outline. Chris Buescher says the most prominent characteristic of @CLTMotorSpdwy is the bumps.
"It's not the big dips and swells that you have at some places. It is just like asphalt, you know, swelling, cracking, just high frequency, like a washboard effect, right? It is just almost violent going across turn three entry."
The word "washboard" came up in nearly all of my conversations with drivers yesterday about the differences between Kansas, Las Vegas and today's race. Watch those Turn 3 bumps.

NEW: a Department of Veterans Affairs report found that 6,488 veterans died by suicide in 2024—62% of whom had no contact with the Veterans Health Administration and received no VA benefits—an average of nearly 18 veteran deaths by suicide per day, a slight decrease from 2023.
