Dr Hellen Barsosio: On the continent, yearly, nearly 40 million pregnancies are at risk of malaria; that’s nearly 600,000 deaths per year. The majority are children under the age of 5. But we talk about pregnancy largely as a special population where they’re at risk of infection, especially first-time mums, and that puts their babies at risk as well.

Pneumonia is the #1 infectious killer of children, but vaccine costs can limit how many children are reached. New guidance from @WHO SAGE says that countries with strong PCV programs can switch to a reduced dosing schedule to save resources & expand reach. tinyurl.com/36sbrm8f

Sometimes i actually forget how iconic Wangari Maathai was. PhD in 1971? Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 making her the first African woman to do it.
Even Karura forest is standing today because of her, what a badass woman!
Well done Kenya! @moh

Missing routine vaccines increases the risk of disease outbreaks like measles. The Immunisation Catch-Up is closing the immunity gap by reaching those who missed their vaccinations. Let us come together to end vaccine-preventable diseases.
